Man fined 9,000 pounds for not having sex with wife

Posted:

A French man has been ordered to pay his wife 9,000 pounds after she sued him for failing to have sex with her for 'a period of several years'

Jean-Louis, 51, neglected his matrimonial duties to wife Monique in Nice, who sued him for 10,000 euros (8,700 pounds) and took her divorce case to an Appeal Court.

The court in Aix-en-Provence heard that the couple had been married for 21 years and raised two children on the French Riviera.

But the strains of work and illness prevented Jean-Louis from fulfilling his matrimonial duties, his advocate pleaded.

Announcing her decision the judge quoted the French civil and penal code, which requires both parties in a marriage to respect 'lifelong community' requiring them by law to have sexual relations, reports the Daily Mail.

The case was an unusual one for France, where it is rare for a husband or wife to pay financial compensation for failing to sexually satisfy their partner. (ANI)

Museum devoted Cup Noodle to be opened in Japan soon

A museum devoted to the Cup Noodle would be opened in Japan next week

The Cup Noodles Museum in Yokohama, southwest of Tokyo, is aimed to enable the visitors to trace the origins of the instant snack back to its postwar roots with the creation of the original "Chikin Ramen" cup noodles in 1958.

The iconic food creation, consisting of a precooked block of noodles requiring only hot water, a packet of flavouring and three minutes preparation time, has been a popular Japanese snack for decades, The Telegraph reports.

The museum, run by the noodles empire Nissin, will also allow visitors to explore how the snack has developed into a favourite food product across the globe over the subsequent decades, the paper said.

The organizers have also created computer-generated characters for a screening in a theatre charting the successes and beliefs of the late cup noodle creator and Nissin founder Momofuku Ando.

There is also a interactive Cup Noodle Park for children.

Divorced woman seeking love via online dating fleeced 100K dollars

An Australian woman, who thought to have found her love during an online dating, has been fleeced 100,000 dollars

Katie Stuart, 55, who was scammed out of the amount, went public with her story, as Commerce Minister Simon O''Brien launched a revamped Consumer Protection WA ScamNet website.

The grandmother from Perth, who started online dating in 2009, eight months after a divorce, said that it all started due to her loneliness.

The man, whom she communicated with online, asked Stuart to be part of a joint venture to renovate a house in Florida, and having been involved in real estate projects before, she was keen on getting along with it, reports WAtoday.com.au.

Stuart, who drew money from her mortgage and sold her car and jewellery to get money to make the payments, sent a few thousand dollars at a time via Western Union to the man, who claimed to be an engineer, based in the United Kingdom, but actually was a scammer, based in Nigeria.

The whole fraud started to unravel when Stuart began receiving electronic goods, which had been sent to her and had been purchased by fraudulent credit cards in her name.

She called the police and tracked the man's real identity online, finding that she was not the only one to have been scammed by him.

British soul singer Adele has revealed that she was stunned to see a drunk woman passing out during her Las Vegas concert earlier this year

During the gig, a fan fell unconscious and was taken to the side of the stage, where she started to urinate unknowingly.

And now the 'Chasing Pavements' hitmaker admits during an interview with British TV host Jonathan Ross that she was shocked by the incident.

"We were in Vegas, it was my first time in Vegas and obviously it's boiling there... And this woman, during one of my shows - obviously my shows don't get really hectic, there's no dance routines, it doesn't get particularly hot, you know... Someone who works for my management saw this woman pass out in the crowd," Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

"This old lady fainted, so they was (sic) bringing her out to the side and then she started p**sing herself. Sixty years old at one of my shows... she was off her face (drunk). It was brilliant," she added.

Ex-UK spies to root out Islamic fanatics in schools

The British government is recruiting former MI5 agents to root out Islamic fanatics in schools across the country, Education Secretary Michael Gove has said

The move comes after several reports highlighted that Muslim preachers of hate and other extremists may influence British school kids.

"We have been working with people who have been in the Intelligence Services in order to ensure that there is no-one from the wrong sort of background involved in education," the Daily Express quoted Gove, as saying.

"And, I should add, not just with the free schools. There have been one or two disturbing cases with existing state schools where people have been trying to subvert them," he added.

Gove also insisted that the government was determined not to allow anyone to establish a "free school", which are designed to be formed by local communities and funded by the government.

"I've been crystal clear we should not have schools set up by extremists whether they're Christian fundamentalists, Islamic fundamentalists or any other sort of outrageous and beyond-the-pale organization," he said.

"We've set up a unit within the Department explicitly to monitor anyone who comes forward with a proposal for extremism.

Man with 'bomb in his backpack' takes 11-year-old daughter hostage

Posted:

A hostage standoff was triggered in a Sydney suburb today when a man entered an office complex accompanied by his daughter, demanded to see a person he believed to work there, and told the receptionist that he had a "bomb in his backpack"

The man, reportedly aged in his 50s, was accompanied by a young girl, who reportedly looked about 11-years-old.

She was heard to refer to him as "Dad", when he threw a book at the reception area.

He then took her to the front of the building and closed the door.

Assistant Police Commissioner Dennis Clifford said that police were "very concerned" about the man's comments.

"Until we have possession of the backpack we will remain very concerned about it. There are a number of specialist units in there. We remained very concerned about [the girl's] safety," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Clifford, as saying.

Appealing for the man to end the siege, he said: "Please work with the police negotiators, we're not here to harm you."

"We are desperately trying to reach a peaceful resolution and whatever the issues are that the man is discussing with our negotiators, I'm sure we can work through them," he added.

The heart of Parramatta remains shut down due to the hostage drama.

Gaddafi's wife, children living in 'close confinement' in Algerian villa

Posted:

Embattled Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's immediate family members are living under 'close confinement' at a luxurious villa in Algeria, it has emerged

According to the Telegraph, Gaddafi's wife Safia, daughter Aisha, sons Mohammad and Hannibal, are under guard near the state residence complex in Staoueli about 20 kilometres west of Algiers.

Sources in Algiers said the family were taken to the area, which is home to senior regime figures, after they were transferred by private jet from a Sahara oasis at the weekend.

The paper quoted an official, as saying that Algeria refused to allow them to bring in 'a big sack of money' and their own bodyguards.

"They were told they would have to travel alone and without their own protection. Both were left at the border. Algeria does not want them to cause trouble here," the official said.

A Western diplomat also said the security services transported the family to an area where access was tightly controlled.

"It is possible that the family will be allowed to move into elite apartments in Algiers at a later time but for the moment they are being kept far away from view in the top officials area in Staoueli," the official said.

A former adviser to the family said that Aisha Gaddafi had surfaced on a Google Talk account since arriving in Algeria, but the family appeared to be cut off from outside communications, the paper said.

The Algerian government has claimed that it is treating the family 'as Algerians' and they would be cordoned off from outside visitors for the foreseeable future.

Octogenarian nabbed for drunk driving in wheelchair

Posted:

A man, who was visibly under the influence of alcohol, has been arrested in Norway for driving the wrong way down a highway in his electric wheelchair.

According to the police, the 84-year-old man took to the road near his home in the southern Norwegian town of Porsgrunn and passed through a 184-metre tunnel before turning around and taking the same tunnel again.

The man was stopped by two motorists who called the traffic police, after which his driver's licence was confiscated on the spot and blood test was taken - the results of which are yet unknown.

"He was visibly drunk," the Herald Sun quoted Kjell Ove Ljosaak, a local police official as saying.

Since motor vehicle laws do not apply to wheelchairs, the police are looking for a way to cancel the man's license.

"He can also expect a fine since highways are off-limits to pedestrians and wheelchairs," Ljosaak added.

9/11-like attack no longer possible: EU official

Posted:

Terror attacks similar to those that struck New York Sep 11, 2001, are "probably no longer possible", European Union (EU) counter-terrorism coordinator Gilles de Kerchove has said.

"I think we can say today that an attack of the scale and the sophistication that we once had on September 11 probably is no longer possible," de Kerchove was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

However, he stressed: "That doesn't mean we are completely out of threat."

He said Al Qaeda, the terrorist outfit that masterminded the Sep 11 attacks, has been "significantly weakened" by the campaigns in Afghanistan and Pakistan, which also led to the death of its founder Osama bin Laden.

He warned that the terrorist threat of today was "more complex and diverse", referring to remnants of the Al Qaeda in the Arabian peninsula and North Africa.

In the last decade, international cooperation on the war against terrorism has been strengthened by sharing data, collaborating with police and judiciary, Kerchove said.

"Overall, we are much better equipped today that we were 10 years ago," he said.
