Man raped daughter, locked up another in room for a year

Posted:

A man in the US repeatedly raped one of his daughters, who was less than 13 years old, and locked up another in a room no bigger than a wardrobe for more than a year, it was reported here Tuesday.

The case is similar to that of Josef Fritzl, an Austrian father who kept his daughter locked in a room for years and repeatedly raped her.

Daily Mail reported that Jeffrey York not only ruled his home with fear, he prevented his wife and seven children from meeting friends and family.

The alleged abuse came to light in December last year after York's wife Danita told police that he had raped one of their daughters at their home in Madison Township in Ohio.

She told investigators that she and her children - two boys and five girls who were aged three months to 19 years - wanted to leave.

York has been charged with 19 offences ranging from rape to gross sexual conduct and child abuse.

Sleuths said that one of the man's daughters had been locked in a room no bigger than a wardrobe for a year. The girl was only permitted to use the toilet and had little access to food or clothing, the media report said.

"Imagine an 8x10 bedroom being cut down into thirds with two-thirds being storage, one-third being made available for living space.

"This went on for a year where this child was locked in the room, periodically let out to use the restroom, but in general, meals were brought to this child. Access to clothing, the restroom and everything was restricted by York," Detective Dan Boerner was quoted as saying.

York's family is now staying at a shelter for abused women where counsellors were able to get more details of the terrible living conditions.

Boerner said: "The family appears to have been cut off from the world completely... It's not a cult, but they had no real support system and no way for the mother to leave.

"There were no friends to speak of. The abuse was constant. When the defendant would leave the house, he would always take one of the kids with him. There would always be that fear of the 'what if'."

Indian pleads guilty to killing toddler in Australia

An Indian national accused of killing three-year-old Gurshan Singh Channa pleaded guilty Tuesday to the crime in a court in Australia.

Gursewak Dhillon, 23, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court where he entered a guilty plea, The Age reported.

The Indian boy had gone missing from a house in Lalor, a suburb in Melbourne, in March and his body was found hours later on the side of a road near Melbourne Airport.

Dhillon, who shared a house with Gurshan's parents, previously admitted disposing of the body, but denied deliberately injuring the child.

Documents released from the court show that Dhillon knocked Gurshan unconscious while the boy was moving around the house, the report said.

Dhillon's wife, Simarjeet Kaur, heard Gurshan fall to the ground with a loud bang and saw her husband hold the boy, the documents revealed.

When his wife said that she would get Gurshan's mother, who was in the bathroom, Dhillon told her not to, and instead to get his keys from the bedroom.

He then put the boy in the boot of a car and drove around for three hours, dumping the boy on the side of the road before returning home.

Dhillon said he intended to driving to a surgery or hospital but panicked, fearing authorities would find he had entered Australia under a false name and so would face deportation.

"I was afraid ... that if I call the ambulance, then I will be in the court and I, I have to go to the police. I want to keep myself safe and that's why I didn't call the ambulance," he told police.

A post-mortem examination on the child found slight bruising consistent with a minor knock to the head, but failed to find a cause of death.

Gurshan's mother, Harpreet Channa, told police that on the day he died Gurshan had not eaten and had just been drinking milk.

Dhillon did not apply for bail Tuesday and was remanded in custody to appear at the Supreme Court Sep 21.

Gurshan's parents returned to their home village in the state of Punjab shortly after their son's death.

MP's wife: A sex worker?

Posted:

A British MP's wife works as a prostitute charging 70 pounds "for oral sex without a condom followed by full sex with a condom", said a media report here.

The revelation left the MP stunned as he said: "That's a horrible shock".

Sunday Mirror reported that Tory MP Mike Weatherley's Brazilian wife Carla, 39, works at three seedy brothels.

The expose could prove embarrassing to Prime Minister David Cameron, who campaigned alongside Weatherley at the general election earlier this year.

Weatherley met Carla 10 years ago while he was on a business trip to Rio de Janeiro.

Sources say that she was already then a sex worker.

There is, however, nothing to suggest that Weatherley knew.

After starting a relationship, Weatherley may have bought Carla an apartment in the Copacabana beach area.

Later, Weatherley moved Carla to Britain, where they married in Brighton, East Sussex, in 2003.

Carla's occupation was listed as housewife in the marriage certificate and initially, she put her past behind her.

However, in February, as Weatherley geared up for the poll campaign, she re-entered the sex industry.

During the campaign, Weatherley took Carla to a number of political functions in the Hove and Portslade constituency.

Sunday Mirror reporter met her at a South London massage parlour where she offered to perform a list of sex acts.

She then stripped off and danced naked.

The media report said that Carla walked into the room in pink lingerie and said she was "Bea".

She then rattled off a price list - "30 pounds for hand relief, 40 pounds for oral sex with a condom followed by sex and 70 pounds for oral sex without a condom followed by full sex with a condom".

She also spoke about two brothels where she works - North Cheam Massage and Intimate Massage in Bedford.

"I started working in Bedford in February, but it is very far away. Here we have two houses, this one and one in Cheam. And I work there at the moment. I cover for my friend because she's on holiday. I work Thursday there and Friday here. Then, when she is back, I will work Mondays. Thursdays here, Mondays there," she was quoted as saying.

She added: "I like it here, nice clients, nice people, nice place and good money."

Weatherley said he was not aware that his wife was a prostitute and added: "Oh no. It's a bit of a shock. We separated in February and I had absolutely no idea at all. We've kept in touch and have lunch together every week so we're still good friends."

"That's a horrible shock... thank you for letting me know."

Man killed by internet girlfriend's real live-in lover

A Scot, who travelled to the Philippines to propose to a woman he met online, was stabbed to death by his internet girlfriend's live-in lover, it was reported here.

Twentyseven-year-old John McDonald met Nanqueen Romero, 31, at an internet chat room and they talked online for weeks, before Romero invited him to visit her in Angono in the Philippines.

McDonald didn't have any clue that she was living-in with Anselmo Lacostales. She had introduced Lacostales as her brother, The Sun reported Tuesday.

He reached the Philippines Thursday and went to Romero's home near capital Manila Saturday.

"From what we understand, she introduced her live-in boyfriend Lacostales as her brother. But trouble came after they all went to dinner to a restaurant," a police spokesman was quoted as saying.

As soon as McDonald said that he plans to ask Romero to marry him, Lacostales lost his cool.

When they reached back at the house, Lacostales grabbed a knife and repeatedly stabbed McDonald and Romero.

Judge drops charges after the actor decides not to re-testify

Judge drops charges after the actor decides not to re-testify

John Travolta wants the pain to stop.

On the request of the actor's family, a judge in the Bahamas dismissed charges yesterday against two people accused of extorting money from the star and his wife after their 16-year-old son Jett died.

"The Travolta family has said that this matter has caused them unbelievable stress and pain and they wish to put this whole thing behind them," prosecutor Neil Braithwaite said.

The lawyer submitted the motion to drop the case after a jury had already been chosen and a retrial scheduled for ambulance driver Tarino Lightbourne and his attorney, Pleasant Bridgewater.

The duo was accused of seeking $25 million from the actor by threatening to release private information about Jett's death in January of last year at the family's vacation home in the Bahamas.

According to sources, Travolta signed a Refusal of Treatment/Transportation form January 2 after his son suffered a deadly seizure. Bridgewater and Lightbourne, who obtained the Pulp Fiction star's signature, reportedly hatched the extortion plot believing the actor would be embarrassed by his decision to refuse service.

Travolta, an avid pilot, initially wanted to take his son to an airstrip for an emergency flight to Florida.

But the form was eventually disregarded as the harried parents accompanied Jett in an ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Bridgewater resigned from the Bahamas Senate after the charges against her went public.

In October, the judge declared a mistrial after a Bahamian legislator announced at a political convention that the jury -- who were still deliberating after eight hours had acquitted one of the suspects.

While Travolta testified during the fall trial, he said yesterday that he had decided not to testify during a retrial despite previously stating he would.

"The long-pending status of this matter continued to take a heavy emotional toll on my family, causing us to conclude that it was finally time to put this matter behind us," he said."
