A retired Lieutenant Colonel has been arrested by the Pune police on charges of molesting a 14-year-old girl who was a student in his coaching classes. According to police, 48-year-old Tejinder Singh runs a coaching institute by the name of Aroha classes in Pune's NIBM Road area. He first misbehaved with the girl, a Class IX student who studies Mathematics at the institute, on September 12, but the victim ignored.

Fight over property, builder 'kidnaps' doctor

Opposition over formation of a housing society led to a 50-year-old doctor from Thane getting kidnapped for two days. According to police, the incident occurred with Dr Jayant Desai, resident of Purushottam Plaza at Kasarwadvali in Thane who had apparently taken the lead in registering his building as a housing society. The move faced stiff opposition from developer of the building Dharmendra Jindal.

A 14-year-old schoolgirl in Kanpur committed suicide on Saturday by hanging herself after she was allegedly scolded for watching a TV serial, police said. Menaka, a Class IX student, committed suicide at her residence in Tejabmill colony, after her father Surendra Singh, a railway employee, reprimanded her for watching a TV serial.

Two unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire on 46-year-old estate agent Rohit Chheda on Saturday morning. Chheda was shot at from point blank range near Deepak Hospital on Mira Road. He was admitted to Tunga Hospital and is out of danger.

Metro to reserve coach for women from October 2

One coach in all Delhi Metro trains will be reserved for women from October 2 in order to decongest the bogies. The reserved ladies' coach will be the first after the driver's cab in every train. Children up to 12 years, accompanied by women passengers, will also be allowed to travel in the reserved coach, said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) statement.

The office of Bangalore's prominent builder, Mantri Developers, was attacked on Saturday night. According to the police, two bike-borne men fired six bullets at the building located at the city's upmarket Vithal Mallya road. No one was injured in the attack. Police say it's the handiwork of an underworld don who wants to create a scare in the city.
