A 21-year-old engineering student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her rented accommodation in Ghaziabad, police said on Thursday. Pushpa Rani, who hailed from Gorakhpur district, was a first year student at a local engineering college and staying in Kavinagar. She allegedly hanged herself to death on Wednesday evening, police said.

Armed Maoists burnt several houses, including that of a BJP leader, and looted valuables worth Rs 50 lakh in Imamganj area of Naxal hit Gaya district in Bihar early on Thursday, the police said. The Maoists held a kangaroo court that passed an order for 'attachment of properties' of Dhanraj Sharma, BJP's Gaya district vice-president and a close aide of the Bihar Assembly Speaker U N Choudhury, and eight others at Kotiya village for working against them.

Ghaziabad: Couple killed, two injured

A couple was killed and two others injured in an attack by some unidentified assailants, following which one person has been arrested, police said on Thursday. Forty-five-year old Munesh and his wife, forty-year old Santra were killed when some unidentified persons entered their house on the Rawli road, 30 kms from Ghaziabad, police said, adding, two of their relatives Sanjay and Sadhna were also injured in the incident.
