Thai man gets 20 years in prison for offensive text against queen

A Thai criminal court sentenced a 61-year-old man to 20 years in prison Wednesday for sending text messages deemed offensive to the country's queen. The court found Amphon Tangnoppaku guilty on four counts under lese majeste and computer crime laws, sentencing him to five years imprisonment for each charge, to be served consecutively.

Pakistan's former information minister Sherry Rehman has been appointed the country's new Ambassador to the United States. The appointment came just hours after Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani asked envoy Husain Haqqani to resign over a secret memo, allegedly written by Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari asking for US intervention in his country to prevent a military takeover following the death of Osama bin Laden in an American military raid in May this year.


Qantas faces backlash over Twitter hash

Embattled Australian airline Qantas was Wednesday facing a social media storm after a publicity exercise on Twitter dramatically backfired, prompting an outpouring of negative comments. As the airline works to win back the hearts of Australians after grounding its entire fleet last month over an industrial dispute, stranding tens of thousands of passengers around the world, it launched a Twitter competition.
