Pakistan's foreign minister has told U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton that an alleged NATO attack that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers has negated progress in improving the tattered alliance between the two countries.

The Obama administration on Saturday pledged a full investigation into a NATO attack that allegedly killed 24 Pakistani troops. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta in a joint statement offered their "deepest condolences" for the loss of life in the cross-border incident in Pakistan. Clinton and Panetta also said they "support fully NATO's intention to investigate immediately."

NATO attack: The firing by NATO helicopters and combat jets on Pakistan soldiers has added further strain to already tense Pakistan-US relationship. Iraqi officials say seven people have been killed in two blasts in central Iraq. Police officials said two bombs were planted early Saturday in a spot where day laborers gather in the mostly Sunni village of al-Zaidan, near the town of Abu Ghraib west of Baghdad.
