Parents turning to Google to give babies 'unique' names

Posted:

A growing number of new parents are turning to Google to decide their child's name, which is 'unique' and does not cause them a lifetime of embarrassment

According to the Telegraph, most parents are 'Googling' a baby's potential name to try avoiding names that bring up an undesirable search result.

Some are basing the decision on what baby name will be unique enough to rise to the top of search results.

For example, an American couple, Lecia and Thor Kaslofsky, changed the spelling of the name they wished to give their baby daughter from 'Kalia' to 'Kaleya', as the first version pulled up pictures and search results of strippers, after they Googled it.

"We didn't want there to be a Google identity for her to wrestle with," the couple told the New York Times.

Laura Wattenberg, the author of 'The Baby Name Wizard', pointed out that a desire for uniqueness in the digital world has provoked 'unspoken competition' between parents to find the most original name.

A study on LilSugar, a US site for parents, discovered that 64 percent of respondents had Googled their baby's potential name before making the final decision.

A doctor has been arrested for molesting a girl here during a medical check-up

The victim, a Class VI student of a government school and a resident of Palam in south Delhi, had Monday afternoon gone for a check-up at a clinic where Harpal Singh, in his 40s, misbehaved with her.

He was arrested after the girl's parents lodged a police complaint.

Singh, from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, was staying at Sangam Vihar in south Delhi.

The victim, daughter of a bus conductor, had complained of an intense pain on her neck Nov 24. She along with her neighbour, went to a clinic in Palam village.

Harpal Singh conducted the victim's medical check-up and prescribed her some medicines for three days and asked her to get a blood test done, a police officer said.

The girl and her father went to the clinic for a blood test Sunday. The next day, the victim along with her neighbour collected the blood test report from the clinic and showed it to Singh.

"Singh told her that he needed to physically examine the victim and took her to a room and closed the doors. He misbehaved with her on pretext of examining her. When the girl felt uncomfortable, she screamed and ran out," the police complaint says.

The doctor has been booked for molestation, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation.

Pakistan blocks BBC channel for spreading 'anti-Pak' content

Posted:

Pakistani cable television operators have blocked broadcasts of the BBC's World News channel, and threatened to suspend other foreign channels showing 'anti-Pakistan' content.

The operators said that the move is in response to a documentary broadcast by the channel, entitled Secret Pakistan, the BBC reports.

The two-part BBC documentary questioned the country's commitment to tackling Taliban militancy.

It quoted US intelligence officials as saying that they acted as America's ally in public while secretly training and arming the Taliban in Afghanistan.

The All Pakistan Cable Operators Association called on the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) "to revoke the landing rights of foreign channels" if they are found to be "propagating" information harmful to the country.

According to the report, the BBC said it was deeply concerned by the move, and called for its channel to be speedily reinstated.

"We condemn any action that threatens our editorial independence and prevents audiences from accessing our impartial international news service," a BBC spokesperson said.

"We would urge that BBC World News and other international news services are reinstated as soon as possible," the spokesperson added.

A German man has been charged for raping his daughter repeatedly over a period of 34 years and fathering three children with her

Adolf Bergbauer admitted that he had sex with his daughter while giving testimony in the court in Nuremberg on Monday but denied charges of rape, saying that she gave her consent.

69-year-old Bergbauer has been charged with 497 counts of rape.

He denied the prosecution charges that he started to rape his daughter when she was 12, saying that the first sexual contact took place when she was 17.

"She was a willing participant," WAtoday quoted him as saying.

"I did not undress her myself.

He said that they had consensual sex about twice a week.

According to prosecutors, the daughter, who is now aged 46, said that he raped her in her parents' bedroom, in her own room and later in the woods in the back of his car.

She also said that he forced her into sex at knife-point, which Bergbauer strenuously denied.

"Never in my life have I done that," he said.

The daughter's lawyer, Andrea Kuehne, said her client was "shocked and furious" at Bergbauer's statement that the sex was consensual.

"My client would never have pressed charges if she had felt that way," the lawyer added.

Of the three sons born as a result, two died and the other is handicapped.

The man faces up to 15 years behind bars if convicted.

'Obedient Wives Club' blames women for hubby's illicit affairs!

Obedient Wives Club in Malaysia has stirred up another controversy with a member blaming women for husbands who indulge in illegal sexual relationships

Hajiera Hartley said women who did not fulfil the sexual needs of their husbands caused the men to look for illicit affairs.

She said that a survey carried out recently by the club showed that only 10 percent of Malay wives understood the sexual needs of their husbands.

"Most married Malay women are busy with domestic chores and ignore the sexual needs of their husbands," the Star Online quoted her as saying.

"A sexually satisfied husband can lead to a harmonious family," she added.

Hajiera said Islam teaches Muslim wives to offer themselves 100 percent to their husbands and advised women to dress attractively for their husbands.

Norway gunman is 'criminally insane'

Posted:

Psychiatrists assessing Anders Behring Breivik have concluded that he is suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and is 'not accountable for attacks'

A psychiatric report on Anders Behring Breivik has found that the confessed gunman is insane and therefore not fit to stand trial over twin attacks that killed 77 people.

The finding by the two forensic psychiatrists will help determine whether Breivik is sentenced to prison or psychiatric care.

Prosecutor Svein Holden says the report shows Breivik was "psychotic" during the attack. If that assessment is upheld by the court then Breivik cannot be sentenced to prison for the attacks.

"The conclusion is... is that he is insane," Holden said. "He lives in his own delusional universe and his thoughts and acts are governed by this universe."

The two psychiatrists Synne Serheim and Torgeir Husby, delivered their finding to the Oslo district court yesterday morning.

"We have no doubt when it comes to our conclusions," said Husby as he submitted the report. "It was a lot of work," Husby said.

Breivik was suffering from a psychosis that altered his judgment leading up to and at the time of the attacks.

Breivik has admitted to setting off a bomb outside the government offices, before going on a shooting rampage on the island of Utoeya.

In his manifestor, Breivik said he was on a "crusade" against Islam and professed his hatred for Western-style democracy.

Luxury cell for Breivik
Prison chiefs are building mass murderer Anders Breivik a multimillion-euro suite at Europe's softest jail because he feels lonely in solitary confinement. The right-wing extremist will get a bedroom, lounge and communal area to be shared with three other high-risk criminals, all at the taxpayers' expense. Knut Bjarkeid, director of Norway's Ila Prison, said, "It is unfair he's alone. This solution can give him fellowship."

Lost dog returns home... 5 years on

Posted:

When a British woman's dog vanished from the driveway five years ago she soon gave up hope of seeing the pet again.

As the days went by without any sighting of seven-year-old T-Bone, Pat Oates concluded the bull terrier had been stolen.

So she was astonished and overjoyed to be told last week that the dog had been found five years on -- riding on a local bus.

The bus driver took the animal to a local veterinary surgery, where staff were able to reunite Oates with her long-lost pet, now aged 12, after scanning his microchip.

On Monday Oates, a delivery driver, said, "We couldn't believe it when we got the phone call. I thought the vet was joking. I broke down crying. We're over the moon to have him back, we thought he was gone for good."

The mother-of-three said it was a mystery how the dog came to be travelling on the number 37 bus, operated by Travel West Midlands.

But she said it was no surprise he had been found on a bus, as the dog always enjoyed going on car journeys with the family. Oates said T-Bone had been neglected and was suffering with a cyst on his leg.

Dr Conrad Murray was sentenced yesterday to four years in jail -- the maximum sentence allowed under the law -- in the death of Michael Jackson.

which is the maximum punishment. File pic

Judge Michael Pastor, in a lengthy statement delivered before sentencing Murray for involuntary manslaughter, said he felt a significant responsibility to determine the appropriate sentence, utilising his "sense of fairness and decency." "There are those who feel Dr Murray is a saint," he said. "There are those who feel
Dr Murray is the devil. He's neither. He's a human being. He stands convicted of the death of another human being."

"Regrettably, as far as Dr Murray is concerned, the most significant chapter, as it relates to this case, is the chapter involving the treatment, or lack of treatment, of Michael Jackson." Jackson died "not because of an isolated one-off occurrence or incident," Pastor said. "He died because of a totality of circumstances which are directly attributable to Dr Murray... because of a series of decisions that Dr Murray made."

As the sentencing hearing began a family friend of the Jackson family, lawyer Brian Panish, read a statement.
Expressing their sense of loss for their "son, husband, brother and father", the statement said, "We respectfully request that you impose a sentence that demonstrates that physicians cannot sell their services to the highest bidder and lose sight of their Hippocratic oath," Panish read.

French dad killed 3-yr-old Boy in washing machine

The 33-yr-old man is facing murder charges after he put his son in the machine to punish him for misbehaving in school

A French man is facing murder charges for stuffing his 3-year-old son into a washing machine and turning it on, authorities said.

The man, identified in reports as Christophe Champenois, was charged with "murder of a minor" late on Sunday in Meaux near Paris, court officials said.

The boy's mother was charged with failing to prevent a crime and failing to assist a person in danger.
Both were held without bail.

A source connected with the case said the child appeared to have died from "a blow to the head".

Neighbours said the boy, Bastien, died on Friday after his father put him naked in the washing machine to punish him for getting into trouble at nursery school.

A neighbour who gave her name only as Alice said that she had seen the boy's body after his mother had come to her apartment for help.

"I took the little boy in my arms, he was frozen, completely naked. He was all white, limp, practically like a toy," said Alice, who lives in the same apartment building as the couple in Germiny L'Eveque, a town of 1,300 people.

Alice said the boy's mother had attempted to resuscitate him with heart massage but failed.

A source connected with the inquiry said the man was denying the charges and asserting that the boy had fallen down the stairs.

But witness testimony and tests on the body were "consistent with the fact that the child was put into a washing machine", the source said, adding that the boy had been repeatedly abused, including by being locked up for hours in a cupboard.

A local official, Christine Boubet, said social services had assisted the family since 2006 "for social and psychological distress".

Since the end of the school holidays earlier this month Bastien's school, parents and sister had noticed a change in the boy's behaviour as he was more "disturbed, careless and a problem for his parents," Boubet said.
