Pakistani among two men jailed for attempting car sex in Dubai

Dubai police has jailed two men including a Pakistani national for attempting to have sex inside a car near Mirdiff City Centre

The Dubai Misdemeanour Court jailed the two men, a 24-year-old Pakistani and a 28-year-old Filipino, for one month each although they denied the charge and pleaded not guilty.

Both men, who work, as salesmen will be deported back to their countries after the sentence is completed.

According to the arraignment sheet, prosecutors said 28-year-old C.K. allowed 24-year-old W.A. to have sex with him, Gulf News reports. Both men, however, pleaded innocent and claimed in court that the accusation was groundless.

Both men said they did not have any sexual intercourse. Police took the two men to the police station for questioning. The Pakistani alleged that police promised to let him go if he confessed that he had consensual sex with the Filipino.

107-year-old car that has never broken down and is still going strong!

Posted:

Here is Britain's oldest car, which has been running since the last 107 years but has never bothered its owners with any technical breakdown

The two-seater Wolseley 6 built in 1904, 'runs like a dream' and has just passed the Ministry of Transport test (MOT).

The number of miles the car has clocked can't be known, as it was made even before mileometers were installed in British cars.

Owner Brian Caseley, 65, bought the car for an undisclosed sum in 2004 from a friend who collects vintage and regularly takes the car for a spin around his hometown of Sherborne, Dorset.

"She still runs like a dream. I'm very proud of her and love showing her off," the Daily Mail quoted him as saying.

"She's quite a regular now in the town," he added.

Caseley's wife Pat, 63, also revealed that it is one of the most 'efficient' cars.

"The car has never broken down and is still as good as the day it was first made," she said.

"It runs on petrol and does around 30 to 40 miles to the gallon so is more efficient than most of today's cars," she added.

The car, which was originally owned by E H Greenly, of Herefordshire, in 1905, has a top speed of 29mph, still sports the original registration plate CJ 164 and is still in mint condition.

Woman kills child servant for not feeding dog

Upset at her pet dog not being fed on time, a woman allegedly tortured her 12-year-old domestic help to death in this Pakistani city.

The woman has been sent to prison on a two-week remand by a court hearing the case of the alleged killing of the child help.

According to the FIR, Taqi Usman was working as a domestic help for Sadia Asif, a resident of Lahore, for several months.

On August 15, 12-year-old Taqi forgot to feed his employer's pet dog, infuriating her. An angry Sadia allegedly subjected him to severe torture that resulted in his death.

Police produced accused Sadia before Judicial Magistrate Junaid Ahmad yesterday and submitted that her physical remand had been completed, on which the court sent her to jail on a 14-day judicial remand and directed to produce her again on September 12.

1 in 7 people think US staged 9/11 attacks

Posted:

One in seven Americans and Britons believe that the US government was involved in a conspiracy to staged the 9/11 terror attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people, findings of a poll released ahead of the 10th anniversary of the attacks have revealed.

The survey, carried out by Gfk NOP as part of a BBC Two programme- 'The Conspiracy Files - Ten Years On', interviewed 1,000 people in the UK and the same number in the US, and found that 14 percent of Britons 15 percent of Americans think the past administration was involved in the tragedy, the Daily Mail reports.

On being asked that despite having a general notion that "these attacks were carried out by Al Qaeda, some people have suggested there was a wider conspiracy that included the American government. Do you, yourself, believe that there was a wider conspiracy, or not?" one in seven people agreed that the Bush administration was involved in the conspiracy that brought down the Twin Towers in New York

The belief that there was a conspiracy was more common among younger people, with a quarter (24 percent) of 16 to 24-year-olds subscribing to the theory, the paper quoted the poll, as saying.

About two thirds of those polled, 68 percent disagreed that the attacks were a result of a conspiracy led by the former US government.

On September 11 morning in 2001, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners.

The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and thousands of those working in the buildings.

Both towers collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others.

A third airliner was crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.

Gaddafi's daughter-in-law threw boiling water on nanny

A nanny who worked for one of ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's daughter-in-law was burned by boiling hot water poured over her head after she refused to beat her daughter

Shweyga Mullah was found abandoned in a room at one of the family's luxury villas in Tripoli, after she was allegedly burned by Hannibal Gaddafi's wife, Aline Skaf, the Daily Mail reports.

Mullah, 30, came from Ethiopia to work as a nanny for the couple's young daughter and son a year ago.

Telling her story to CNN, Mullah said model Aline lost her temper when her daughter wouldn't stop crying and Mullah refused to beat the child.

"She took me to a bathroom. She tied my hands behind my back, and tied my feet. She taped my mouth, and she started pouring the boiling water on my head," the paper quoted Mullah, as saying.

"There were maggots coming out of my head, because she had hidden me, and no one had seen me," she said.

A guard later took her to a hospital, where she received some treatment but when Aline found out, he was threatened with imprisonment if he dared to help her again.

Her chest, torso and legs are all mottled with some old, and some still red scars, the paper said.

Mullah was burned twice, the latest incident three months ago.

She said she wanted to go to the hospital but was unable to afford doing so as Gaddafis did not give her 'one penny' in the year that she worked for them.

Aussie man accidentally dumps wife's $50K jewellery in the trash

Posted:

An Australian man, who accidentally threw out 50,000 dollars worth of his wife's jewellery just two days before his 23rd wedding anniversary, is now petitioning his local council to scour local rubbish tips

Geoffrey, who had split the uninsured collection of jewellery into three garbage bags to try to fool potential robbers, swept them out to the wheelie bin - and, most likely, the Nambour tip, in a terrible mix up while cleaning the house.

Geoffrey, from Caloundra, revealed that he was afraid of being a target of robbers after his GPS navigation system with his home address was stolen along with his keys.

"I had this great idea to split the gold into three rubbish bags so if the thieves did come in they're not going to find it," the Herald Sun quoted him as saying.

"We're moving house and I told the kids and to give me any garbage lying around for me to throw out.

"My wife rang me up when I was at work and said 'Where are the bags?' You know that sick feeling you get? Wow!" he added.

Though he frantically called Sunshine Coast Regional Council to rescue the items that included charm bracelets, bangles and pure gold bars, the authority said there was hardly any chance of finding the loot.

Mumbai among worst city to live: Survey

Posted:

A new survey of 140 cities has rated Vancouver as the best city to live, and Mumbai as one of the worst with a ranking of 116.

Sixth ranked Sydney and Perth and Adelaide with joint eighth position were among the top 10 cities.

"Australia, with a low population density and relatively low crime rates, continues to supply some of the world's most liveable cities," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Economist Intelligence Unit survey editor Jon Copestake, as saying.

Mumbai

The survey showed the poor ranking debt-ridden eurozone countries. Greece's capital Athens ranking dropped from 62nd to 67th.

The survey showed sliding liveability across the Middle East countries in the wake of civil unrest. The Libyan capital Tripoli ranked 135th in the survey.

Hong Kong was ranked 31st, San Francisco and Singapore stood 51st, London at 53rd and New York at 56th position.

Beijing and Shanghai stood at 72nd and 79th position respectively, and Jakarta at 119th.

According to the survey, the worst places to live were Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea, Bangladesh's Dhaka and Zimbabwe's Harare.

The EIU said the survey's objective was to supply guidelines to human resources departments worldwide as to when they should grant hardship allowances as part of expatriate relocation packages to the cities.

"It has since evolved as a broad benchmarking tool used by city councils, organizations or corporate entities looking to test locations against one another," the survey statement said.

Cities were gauged on political and social stability, crime rates and access to quality health care, diversity and standard of cultural events and the natural environment; education (school and university) and the standard of infrastructure, including public transport.

School slammed for asking students if gay sex is 'the sickest sin'

Posted:

A school in Australia has caused controversy after it asked its students whether homosexuality is "the sickest sin" in a home assignment

The homework given to 14 and 15-year-olds at Armadale Christian College also describes, "coming out of the closet" as "open sinning," Perth Now reported.

Inquiries by the Sunday Times have prompted Education Minister Liz Constable to order Department of Education Services staff to go to the school to ensure it was "satisfying registration requirements".

A question in the assignment given to students in June asked: "Is homosexuality the sickest sin there is?"

Later a question asked what God said about homosexuality and pointed to Bible quotes for the answer, which called it an "abomination".

Dani Wright, co-ordinator of youth support service Freedom Centre, said discrimination through such teaching could lead to mental health issues and even suicide.

She said blanket policies were needed about homophobia in schools because, while the WA Equal Opportunity Act did not allow sexual-orientation discrimination, there were "loopholes" for religious institutions.

One student's relative, James Notman, said such "extremist" teachings could "seriously damage the mental well-being" of some children at a time of life when questions of sexuality were of huge importance.

Meanwhile, Stephen Lee, chief executive officer of Swan Christian Education Association, which encompasses the Armadale School, said his association would "review the use of this material" and material used at other SCEA schools following questions from The Sunday Times.

He said the assignment was used to "facilitate discussion on Christian views" as part of a lesson within the WA Curriculum Council course Religion and Life.

Obama's uncle held for drunken driving

Posted:

A long lost uncle of President Barack Obama, arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, is being held without bail though he told police he planned to arrange bail through the White House

Onyango Obama, 67, was arrested Aug 24 in Framingham, 32 km west of Boston, after police said he made a rolling stop through a stop sign and nearly caused a cruiser to strike his sport utility vehicle, various media reports said.

After being booked, he was asked whether he wanted to make a telephone call to arrange for bail. "I think I will call the White House," he stated, according to a police report.

Onyango Obama, originally from Kenya, is the half-brother of the president's late father. He pleaded not guilty and was being held without bail on a detainer from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

ICE said he had an earlier deportation or removal order. Such orders are generally for people living in the country illegally.

The White House had no comment. The president refers in his memoir to retracing his roots to an Uncle Omar, who matches Onyango Obama's background and has the same date of birth, Newsday said.

CNN said an administration official had confirmed that the arrested man is the half-brother of Obama's father. There was no other administration comment immediately available.

The news channel cited a federal law enforcement source as saying Onyango Obama was not legally in the United States and has been previously ordered removed from the country. His case is now going through the immigration process, the source said.

Russian man charged with cannibalism

Posted:

A 21-year-old man in Russia has been charged with cannibalism, as police said he invited a stranger to his house, knifed him to death and then ate him.

The incident took place in the Arctic city of Murmansk, investigators said.

Police believe the main motive for the crime was a "desire to eat human flesh".

The man told police he wanted to try eating at least 10 people in the future.

The killer became acquainted with his victim on the internet, and lured him in sexually.

"One of them was seeking a sexual partner. Such people are not open, and they prefer to hide their contacts", Investigation Committee chief Fyodor Bludenov said.

The accused stabbed his victim a few times, and after having assured himself that the man was dead, he cut up his body and ate him, he said.

After the victim's mother went to the police, investigators analysed his circle of contacts and soon found the accused.

The accused faces up to 15 years in prison if found guilty. He will first face a psychiatric examination to see if he is fit to stand trial.

A cannibal struck in Moscow in May, when an unemployed schizophrenic man killed his drinking partner and butchered his body in his flat.

Another case occurred in St. Petersburg in 2009, when two cannibals who were members of a youth group killed a 16-year-old girl, cut her up and ate parts of her body.

The young men said at their trial that they were "very hungry". They were found guilty of murder and sentenced to 18 years.

Gaddafi's wife, three children cross into Algeria

Posted:

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's wife Safia, daughter Aisha, and sons Hannibal and Mohammed arrived in Algeria Monday, state media reported.

The government has informed the UN and Libyan rebel authorities about their arrival, the official Algeria Press Service (APS) reported.

Gaddafi's family members, including his grandchildren, entered the country around 8.30 a.m. via the Tinalcom border crossing in Illizi province.

Algerian authorities allowed his relatives to enter the country on humanitarian grounds, Xinhua reported quoting the Arabic daily Echorouk.

The Libyan convoy comprising seven cars with 31 people on board waited for 12 hours at the crossing before being authorized to enter Algeria, the paper said.

The health condition of Aisha Gaddafi, who is pregnant in her 9th month, prompted Algeria to let in the convoy, it noted.

Meanwhile, Gaddafi and two of his other sons are reportedly in hiding in the town of Bani Walis south of Tripoli, the Italian news agency ANSA said Monday, citing "authoritative Libyan diplomatic sources".

Abessalam Jalloud, a former Libyan prime minister who defected to Italy last week, said Gaddafi could be hiding south of Tripoli, according to alarabia.net.

"There are two possibilities: either he is hiding south of Tripoli or he left some time ago," Jalloud told reporters.

The leader of the rebel National Transitional Council, Mustafa Abdel Jalil, Monday cautioned against a let-up in international action against Gaddafi, saying he "still poses a danger, not only for Libya but for the world".

"That is why we are calling for the coalition to continue its support," the alarabia.net quoted Abdel Jalil as saying in Doha at a meeting of chiefs of staff of countries militarily involved in Libya.

Italy is Libya's former colonial ruler and enjoyed close diplomatic and economic ties with Col. Gaddafi's regime before the start of a popular uprising this year. It has since joined the international coalition against Gaddafi's regime.

Woman's agony as her 11-year-old son dies, as Hurricane Irene sends tree smashing through his bedroom killing him on the spot

An 11-year-old boy died after he got trapped under a tree that the hurricane sent smashing through his Virginia house.

Neighbours said that Zahir Robinson's mother came running out screaming, 'My baby, my baby boy', after a tree split in half and fell on their two-storey apartment building in Newport News.

Hurricane Irene has left several homeless in its wake including Billy Stinson who tries to collect his thoughts after his 1903 home is completely devastated in North Carolina. According to reports, the damages will still be felt for days to come and repairs after the storm will cost the country $27 billion. Trains remain idle at the Trenton Transit Center due to water on the tracks from Hurricane Irene

Rescue teams worked frantically to remove the tree, which crashed into the boy's bedroom, but he was pronounced dead later in the day.

Taijan Curtis, a neighbour said she and her family were sitting at home next door when they heard the thud of the tree coming down and then the woman screaming.

Fellow neighbour John Peden said he kicked down the door of the house so that the woman was able to get out. He said that she was screaming, 'My baby, my baby'.

Another person said that a woman came out of the home shouting, 'Where's my baby boy?' Police said that they received a call reporting that a tree had fallen on the house.

More than 16 firefighters worked at the scene to saw off branches and remove the tree.

They had to wait around 40 minutes before starting the removal because electric wires had collapsed on the home.

Eventually the boy's body was removed from the apartment after a crane was used to remove the tree. The boy's mother was unharmed.

Damages

Meanwhile, Hurricane Irene has killed 25 people and left a 27billion trail of destruction in its wake but there was relief in New York as the city escaped the worst of the storm.

Across the country whole neighbourhoods lay submerged underwater and millions were without power after the storm ripped up houses, destroyed roads and caused flooding

Deluge of births

Seventeen babies were born at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center during an 18-hour stretch when the hospital was on lockdown during the storm, spokeswoman Carolyn Fisher said.

Yeddyurappa appears in trial court, seeks bail

Posted:

Scam-hit former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa Monday appeared in a trial court along with his two sons, son-in-law and 11 others and moved application for bail in a graft case related to a land scam.

Amid high drama and tight security, a grim-faced Yeddyurappa, sons B.S. Vijayendra and B.S. Raghavendra and son-in-law R. Sohan Kumar were present in the court of Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao, who also functions as special Lokayukta (ombudsman) court for speedy trial of graft cases.

Yeddyurappa's counsel Ravi B. Nayak petitioned the court for bail in the case related to denotification (freeing from government control) of lands in and around Bangalore during his tenure as the first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief minister in south India for 38 months from May 30, 2008, to July 31, 2011.

Though Nayak also sought exemption from personal appearance by Yeddyurappa on health grounds, the judge declined and directed all the accused to appear in his court Sep 7 when their bail applications will be taken up for hearing.

The case was filed Jan 23 by advocates Sirajin Bhasha and N.K. Balaraj after state Governor H.R. Bhardwaj gave them permission Jan 21 to launch criminal proceedings against Yeddyurappa in the land scam.

In their complaints, the two city-based advocates accused Yeddyurappa, Vijayendra, Raghavendra and Sohan Kumar and 11 others of conspiring to denotify the lands in return for monetary benefits. Raghavendra is the ruling party's Lok Sabha member from Shimoga, about 280 km from Bangalore.

Yeddyurapa resigned July 31 after former Lokayukta Justice (retd) N. Santosh Hegde recommended his trial for graft in the multi-crore mining scam in the state.

Before the case was adjourned, Nayak and counsel C.P. Nagesh for Vijayandra, Raghavendra and Kumar objected to complainants Bhasha and Balaraj being represented by another lawyer. Being advocates, they should have been present in the court and argued the case directly, counsel said.

The judge directed Bhasha and Balaraj to respond to the objection and also asked counsel representing the Lokayukta police and the state government to file their objections to the bail applications of all the 15 accused, including Yeddyurappa.

Earlier in the day, Justice L. Narayana Swamy of the Karnataka High Court rejected the anticipatory bail application of Yeddyurappa and directed him to comply with the trial court's summons to appear before it.

The lower court, which took up the case at 11 a.m., adjourned it to 3 p.m. after Yeddyurappa's counsel sought time for appearing in the court.

Emerging from the court, a beleaguered Yeddyurappa said he would honour the court proceedings and abide by the judge's order.

"I respect the judiciary and will abide by the court order. I have moved an application for bail and exemption from personal appearance on health grounds. I will leave it to the judge to decide on my plea. I am confident of proving in the court of law that I have done no wrong in the case," Yeddyurappa told reporters.

Though the summons was issued Aug 8 to appear in the court Aug 27, Yeddyurappa failed to turn up and sought exemption from personal appearance as he was suffering from fever.

Rejecting his plea, the trial court judge, Sudhindra Rao, directed Yeddyurappa to appear in the court Monday. The judge will take up their bail plea for hearing Sep 7.

Gaddafi's teen girl admits shooting 11 rebels at point blank range

Posted:

Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's 19-year-old daughter has admitted to have killed 11 suspected rebel prisoners in the days leading up to the fall of the Libyan capital last week.

In a heavily guarded room at the Matiga military hospital in Tripoli, she admitted that she had shot the rebels at point-blank range, the Daily Mail reports.

"They told me if I didn't kill, it would be me who died. I killed the first one, then they would bring another one up to the room. He would see the body on the floor and look shocked. Then I would shoot him too. I did it from about a metre away," Nisreen Gaddafi said.

"I tried not to kill them ... I turned and shot without looking. But if I hesitated, one of the soldiers would flick off the safety catch of his own rifle and point it at me. I killed ten, perhaps 11, over three days,' she says, slowly and almost disbelievingly, counting the murders on her fingers. 'I don't know what they had done," she said, adding: "I never harmed anyone before the uprising began. I used to have a normal life."

Nisreen, who is now a prisoner of the rebels and in fear of her life, she started living with her mother in Tripoli after her parents split. She also claimed that one of her mother's friends called Fatma al Dreby, who was the leader of the female branch of Gaddafi's Popular Guards militia, forced her to join them.

She alleged that she was sexually abused by senior military figures, one of whom was the commander of the elite Tripoli brigade tasked with protecting Gaddafi himself.

"Fatma had an office at the 77 Brigade base and there was a room with a bed next door. One day, she summoned me and put me in that room by myself. Mansour Dau, who was the commander of 77 Brigade, then came in and shut the door," she said adding that she was raped.

"After it was over Fatma told me not to tell anyone, not even my parents. Every time Mansour came to the HQ he was given another girl by Fatma. She was given presents in return," Nisreen said.

Now that she has told her story to the rebels, she is scared for her life.
