Prostitute sues David Beckham

Posted:

Irma Nici, who claimed she had sex with David Beckham, has sued the soccer ace for causing her 'emotional and physical injuries'.

Beckham, who denied the sex claims, had earlier sued Nici for a whopping $8.2 million in damages. The 26-year-old former prostitute is now hitting back at the father-of-three, reports dailymail.co.uk.

Nici's attorney, Paul Rolf Jensen, filed a suit on Friday at the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

She is said to be claiming for the injuries received when a process server arrived at her New York hotel to deliver Beckham's $25.26m lawsuit last week.

The Bosnian-born claims she was hounded by officials and was hospitalised afterwards. She is holding Beckham responsible for her troubles.

"Beckham is responsible for his goon's conduct, and we will hold him liable for it," said Jenson. "California law does not allow public figures like David Beckham to stifle free speech. Maybe he didn't live here in Los Angeles long enough to learn how precious we here consider our rights to tell the truth in print."

And Katy is keen to ensure the ceremony isn't without plenty of style.

Friends say the Californian singer, 25, has been seeking the help of top Tinseltown wedding organiser Mindy Weiss, whose past clients include Heidi Klum and Gwen Stefani.

"The wedding will be a mix of traditional Hollywood glamour with Katy's hair and dress and Indian touches like henna art on her hands and feet and an Indian tiara," the Daily Express quoted a pal as saying.

US, allies on global hunt for terror plotters

Posted:

US and allied intelligence agencies are on a near-global manhunt for teams of Al Qaeda-affiliated terrorists thought to be preparing multiple attacks on major European cities, according to US media reports.

US and allied services were examining multiple plots as well as multiple modes of attacks ranging from paramilitary-style raids similar to the 2008 Mumbai attacks to the vehicle bombs that to this day ravage Baghdad, The Washington Times reported on Monday citing US counterterrorism officials

The Al Qaeda affiliates plotting the attacks on Europe include Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Taiba held responsible for the Mumbai attacks and the Pakistani Taliban that are said to be training dozens of European passport holders for attacks in Europe.

Also planning attacks are operatives from Al Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb, the group's affiliate based in Algeria and North Africa, it said.

"No one should think in terms of a single Europe threat," a US counterterrorism official was quoted as saying by The Times. "We could be looking at plots - plural - that are probably at various stages of development."

"And since some of the concerns emanate from South Asia and North Africa, governments in those parts of the world are involved, too."

Over the weekend, the State Department issued a travel alert for Americans in Europe to beware of "potential for terrorist attacks in Europe."

The official alert warned Americans of "potential strikes on public transportation systems and other tourist infrastructure. Terrorists have targeted and attacked subway and rail systems, as well as aviation and maritime service."

Security specialists have been concerned about the prospect of an attack similar to the 2008 military-style raids on sections of downtown Mumbai in which 166 people were killed during a three-day assault.

Intelligence sources cited by the Times said the mastermind of the Mumbai attack was Mohammad Ilyas Kashmiri, a senior Al Qaeda commander who the CIA at first thought had killed in a drone attack a year ago but is now thought to be in control of a sleeper network in Western Europe.

That network was first disclosed to the public in the case of David Coleman Headley, a Pakistani-American, who confessed to his role in Mumbai attacks in March.

The indictment against Headley stated that Kashmiri sent him to scope out Jyllands-Posten, the Danish newspaper that published cartoons of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad in 2005.

Hippo, the family pet

Meet Jessica, a 1-ton pet hippopotamus who enjoys bonding with the family dog at home in South Africa.

A decade after she was first rescued by a game ranger, she has become a full-fledged member of his family, even if she's gotten too gargantuan to sleep in a bed.

The beast has a hippo-bottomless appetite, too. She consumes two gallons of coffee a day and piles of sweet potatoes.

"I have been a game ranger all my life, and I have never seen anything like her," said Jessica's father, Tonie Joubert in astonishment.

Three schools force girls to wear veils

Hundreds of girls are bring forced by British schools to wear the Islamic veil in a move, which has been heavily criticised by mainstream Muslims.

Islamic schools have introduced uniform policies which force girls to wear the full headscarf and veil. Moderate followers of Islam said yesterday that enforcement of the veil was a "dangerous precedent" and that children attending such schools were being "brainwashed".

All three schools are independent, fee-paying, single-sex schools for girls aged 11 to 18. Critics warned that the spectacle of burkha-clad pupils entering and leaving the schools at the start and end of the day could damage relations between Muslim and non-Muslim communities. Ed Husain, co-director of Quilliam, the counter-extremist think-tank, said, "It is absurd that schools are enforcing this outdated ritual -- one that sends out a damaging message that Muslims do not want to fully partake in British society.

"Although it is not the government's job to dictate how its citizens dress, it should nonetheless ensure that such schools are not bankrolled or subsidised by the British taxpayer."

Dr Taj Hargey, an imam and chairman of the Muslim Educational Trust of Oxford, said, "This is very disturbing and sets a dangerous precedent. It means that Muslim children are being brainwashed into thinking they must segregate and separate themselves from mainstream society.

None of the schools responded to questions posed by The Sunday Telegraph.

Fury at Italian PM's jew joke

Posted:

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi provoked outrage after an ill-judged joke about Jews and the Holocaust, drawing criticism from the Vatican.

Berlusconi (74), who is known for his slapstick sense of humour told the blasphemous joke while speaking to emergency workers dealing with the aftermath of last year's earthquake in central Italy.

He made the joke hours after winning last week's crucial vote of confidence.

The Vatican's official newspaper L'Osservatore Romano described the jokes as "deplorable" adding they "offended the sentiment of believers and the sacred memory of six million Holocaust victims".

Berlusconi had told supporters outside his home, "A Jew hides a fellow Jew in his basement at the time of the concentration camps and charges him 3,000 euro (Rs 1.85 lakh) a day".

He went on, "The Jew paid up because he had the money but do you think he should tell him that Hitler has died and the war is over?"

The poor taste joke was filmed and posted on the website of Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

Last year, Berlusconi was embroiled in a series of sleazy scandals with a teenage underwear model and
various escorts.

Berlusconi was unrepentant and said the jokes were "just a laugh that were made in private, not offensive and not a sin."

Iranian President Ahmadinejad wants US leaders buried for threats against Tehran's nuclear program

Iran's president yesterday called for US leaders to be "buried" in response to what he says are American threats of military attack against Tehran's nuclear program.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, known for brash rhetoric in addressing the West, but in a speech yesterday he went a step further using a deeply offensive insult in response to US statements that the military option against Iran is still on the table.

"May the undertaker bury you, your table and your body, which has soiled the world," he said using language in Iran reserved for hated enemies.

Several top US officials including Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff have said in recent months that the military option remains on the table and there is a plan to attack Iran, although a military strike has been described as a bad idea.

The speech was broadcast by both state television and the official English-language TV, but the latter glossed over the insult in the simultaneous translation.

Ahmadinejad's remarks come in sharp contrast to ones he made to Al-Jazeera Arabic news channel in August in which he offered the US Iran's friendship.

In yesterday's speech, Ahmadinejad also questioned once more who was behind the September 11 attacks in the US and said they gave Washington a pretext for seeking to dominate the region and plunder its oil wealth.

During his speech in front of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, he said a majority of people in the US and around the world believe the American government staged the attacks, drawing a strong rebuke from President Barack Obama.

Ahmadinejad often resorts to provocative statements to lash out at enemies. He has already compared the power of Iran's enemies to a "mosquito," and has likened the United States to a "farm animal trapped in a quagmire" in Afghanistan.

Iran also condemned the latest US sanctions slapped on eight Iranian officials Wednesday, saying they show American interference in Tehran's domestic affairs.
