Huckabee falsely claims Obama was raised in Kenya (The Ticket) Posted: 01 Mar 2011 01:47 PM PST The Ticket - Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee mistakenly said President Obama was raised in Kenya during an interview yesterday in which he argued that the president's upbringing in Africa gave him a very different outlook on the world than that held by most Americans. Here's What Happens if Congress Decides to Defend DOMA Itself (The Atlantic Wire) Posted: 01 Mar 2011 02:31 PM PST The Atlantic Wire - So here's the situation: the Obama administration announced last week that it now believes the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional and will no longer defend it in court. That said, it also will not provide health care benefits to the same-sex partners of federal employees: DOMA defines marriage as between one man and one woman, and the administration will continue to to enforce the law even if it doesn't defend it in court. Bizarre. |

Three reasons Arab wave won't reach China (The Christian Science Monitor) Posted: 02 Mar 2011 11:02 AM PST The Christian Science Monitor - In the past week or so, a lot of Western press has been given over to the question, âIs China the next Egypt?â Why this question is receiving so much attention puzzles me. Perhaps itâs just wishful thinking: Weâd like to see every country under authoritarian rule become more democratic. But looking at China today, even if I squint really hard, I donât see a government at risk of being toppled by mass protests soon. |

Coburn knocks Gingrich (Daily Caller) Posted: 02 Mar 2011 01:36 PM PST Daily Caller - Oklahoma Republican Sen. Tom Coburn expressed doubt Wednesday that likely Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has what it takes to be president. “He is undoubtedly the smartest man I've ever met,” Coburn said of the former Speaker of the House in an interview with C-SPAN. “He is a thinker. He has great vision. The question to me is, does he have the capability to lead the country? And having served under him in the House, he is probably not one that I would choose to support in a presidential primary." |
