57 people dead in Iraq hostage crisis Posted: Dramatic footage of a deadly hostage situation at a government building in northern Iraq was released on Wednesday. On Tuesday afternoon ten gunmen wearing explosive belts under military uniforms had charged into the provincial council building in Tikrit, 130 kilometers north of Baghdad. 57 people have so far been counted dead and 98 wounded, according to hospital figures as the gunmen shot hostages execution-style, and sprayed bullets and grenades throughout the building during a five-hour standoff. |

Posted: Two doctors of a private hospital are under police radar for allegedly asking for extortion money from one of their patients. Leela Keshavlal Kaushik, resident of Kharadi area, was admitted to Ratna Memorial Hospital for the treatment of lung cancer. Leela alleged that after her discharge from the hospital and bill payment, she was confined in a room by Dr Anantbhushan Ranade and his colleague Vishal Datar and asked for more money. According to a complaint filed by her husband, a guard was also called and she was asked to shell out more money than what was mentioned in the bill. |
