Oracle Corp to fix Java security flaw "shortly" Posted: 12 Jan 2013 04:21 PM PST BOSTON (Reuters) - Oracle Corp said it is preparing an update to address a flaw in its widely used Java software after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security urged computer users to disable the program in web browsers because criminal hackers are exploiting a security bug to attack PCs. "A fix will be available shortly," the company said in a statement released late on Friday. Company officials could not be reached on Saturday to say how quickly the update would be available for the hundreds of millions of PCs that have Java installed. ... |
Internet activist, programmer Aaron Swartz dead at 26 Posted: 12 Jan 2013 06:57 PM PST (Reuters) - Internet activist and computer prodigy Aaron Swartz, who helped create an early version of the Web feed system RSS and was facing federal criminal charges in a controversial fraud case, has committed suicide at age 26, authorities said on Saturday. Police found Swartz's body in his apartment in the New York City borough of Brooklyn on Friday, according to a spokeswoman for the city's chief medical examiner, which ruled the death a suicide by hanging. Whitman's base salary was just $1. Her bonus was $1.7 million, while the remainder of her compensation was granted in the form of Hewlett-Packard stock options, stock awards and other income, according to the proxy filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday.
