'Do a barrell roll' gimmick puts Google in a spin

Even if it was only for a moment, Google had millions spinning into frenzies with a new search function. Desk jockeys and others were amazed yesterday as typing the phrase 'do a barrel roll' as a Google search prompted computer screens to do a 360-degree turn.

The captivating function works in Google Chrome and Firefox browsers, but not in Internet Explorer.
iPhone users can also do a barrel roll on their devices, but Android and Blackberry holders are out of luck.

The search engine said, "Today's fun query, 'do a barrel roll,' was created by a Google software engineer with the primary goal of entertaining users -- while showcasing the power of CSS3, a presentation feature of modern browsers.

The do a barrel roll query, which causes the search page to spin, will remain in place for a while. The phrase quickly became a trending topic on Twitter as users urged their followers to try it for themselves.

The feature can also be used if one searches the phrase 'Z or R twice,' Google's homage to the Nintendo 64 video game Star Fox. Google is no stranger to quirky themes. On Monday, the powerhouse utilised six pumpkins to spell out its name for Halloween.


Osama 'was dead in 90 seconds'

A controversial new account of the killing of Osama bin Laden has challenged the official story of the how the al-Qaeda leader died during the raid on his Pakistani hideout in May.

Chuck Pfarrer, a former commander of US Navy SEAL Team Six, whose members carried out the assault, claims bin Laden was shot dead almost instantly rather than killed in a 45-minute firefight.

Claiming to have interviewed several men involved in the raid, Pfarrer also contradicted the official account of how the SEAL team landed and how one of their Black Hawk helicopters crashed.

"The SEALs entered the building after being deposited on the roof by the lead helicopter, not from the ground," Pfarrer said in a statement about the book.

"Only minutes after bin Laden was dead did the lead helicopter, heading for a landing spot, lose altitude and sink, tail-first, into the large walled enclosure east of the main house."

Pfarrer explains that if the SEALs had been forced to climb stairs to reach bin Laden, as has been officially claimed, he would have had enough warning to arm and effectively defend himself.

"Bin Laden was dead within 90 seconds of the beginning of the raid, not after an extended firefight," Pfarrer said. "Four suppressed rounds were fired."

Pfarrer adds that Amal bin Laden, the al-Qaeda chief's youngest wife, was wounded in the calf during the second round of fire, as she was shoved her in the way of the shooters.

Pfarrer describes his book as an "explosive story of unparalleled valour, clockwork military precision, and deadly accuracy". But it was dismissed as "plain wrong" by US officials.

The book also argues that bin Laden's long-time deputy must have been ultimately responsible for leading the US to his boss.


'Stay away from bieber, or we will kill you'

Justin Bieber's army of fans have taken to Twitter to threaten Mariah Yeater -- the woman who has accused the teen star of fathering her love child

Justin Bieber fans have made online death threats against the woman who has claimed he is the father of her son. Beliebers, the singer's obsessed fans have launched a tirade of vile threats against Mariah Yeater, who alleges she took the teen idol's virginity in a 30-second backstage romp.



One young female fan tweeted, "I could kill this b***h, really she messes with my baby!!! She is sooo dead.
"Don't mess with the Beliebers and don't make us go REALLY protective over Justin Bieber! Marian Yeater, really leave him alone, we don't want you."



Another fan, EvelynHorwitz tweeted, "We all have our little fantasies and dreams about having Justin's babies but you just need help. Sincerely, Beliebers. "Mariah Yeater is pregnant with Justin Bieber's child. Also Barack Obama is white and Michael Jackson is still alive living on a unicorn farm."

She added a poem, "Dear Mariah Yeater, Roses are red, violets are blue, stay away from Bieber or Beliebers will kill you." Emma Grande made it quite clear her feelings on Yeater by posting: "Mariah Yeater blames Justin Bieber cause she's pregnant. Hoe. Go die b****h."

While Karen Ortiz B threatened, "Go away before millions of Beliebers kill you.. Tell the world you're pregnant off Justin Bieber and I'll go for you." Online court records show Yeater filed a paternity lawsuit against Bieber in San Diego Superior Court.

She said she gave birth to a boy -- Tristyn Anthony -- in July and believes the is the father because there were no other possible men at that time. Bieber's camp has accused Yeater of lying and said they would "vigorously pursue all available legal remedies".

Meanwhile, she is asking a judge for child support and a paternity test. Yeater "is pursuing a modest and rightful claim", her lawyers said. "There is credible evidence that Justin Bieber is in fact the father of her baby."

Cops to investigate sexual tryst
A woman who claims Justin Bieber fathered her baby in a backstage bathroom could be investigated for having sex with a minor because the singer was 16 at the time. While no crime has been reported, Los Angeles police Cmdr Andrew Smith said that the department could investigate after Yeater filed the paternity suit.
