The city's anti-corruption brigade have decided to show full support for the proposed fast by Anna Hazare from December 11 for a strong Lokpal bill. "We have decided to hold a dharna on December 11 and 12 in support of Anna Hazare," said P Rama Krishna, member of the Hyderabad chapter of India Against Corruption and founder, Its Time to Make a Difference, an NGO.

Maternity assistants attached to the Corporation-run hospitals in Vyasarpadi and Pulianthope struck work after their colleague was picked by police for questioning in connection with Tuesday's kidnap of a newborn boy by a woman arrack seller. Even as the maternity assistant was later let off, many pregnant women were left stranded when the protesting medical staff refused to attend to them. On Tuesday, M Velankanni (26) of Malligaipu Colony, was arrested on charges of kidnapping the newborn of P Nandini (20) from the maternity hospital in Ganesapuram at Vyasarpadi. The baby was rescued after local residents, who became suspicious on seeing the accused woman with a baby, tipped off the police.

A journalist was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly shooting at a man whose car brushed against his, police said. Arun Kumar Pandey, 50, working with a prominent web newspaper, was arrested for allegedly firing at Jagbir Singh, 60, who however escaped as the bullet hit his belt buckle.

A special CBI court yesterday granted bail to Swan Telecom promoter and 2G case accused Shahid Balwa, citing the "principle of parity" a day after five co-accused were given bail by the Delhi High Court. The bail plea of RK Chandolia, ex-aide of former telecom minister A Raja, was kept pending for Wednesday. Balwa's father announced that he would go for a pilgrimage after the court granted his son bail in the 2G case.
