China envoy tells Indian reporter to 'shut up' when asked about incorrect map Posted: 03 Nov 2011 08:58 AM PDT China's ambassador to India snapped "Shut up" when a reporter in Delhi today asked him about a map that showed Arunanchal Pradesh as a part of China. The incident took place at a hotel in Delhi, where a business delegation from China and the ambassador were sharing information about investments in India by Chinese companies. A brochure shared by one of the firms showed Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh as a part of China. |

Nurse to be suspended for using acid on pregnant woman in Bengal hospital Posted: 03 Nov 2011 03:10 AM PDT A nurse in Lalbag Hospital will be suspended for using acid for antiseptic on a pregnant woman in a hospital in Murshidabad. The incident which occurred on Tuesday, ensured the woman Shikha Bibi, who was going into labour, lost her baby boy, and suffered great injuries on her thighs. Earlier, Shikha Bibi and her husband - a daily wage labourer, said that doctors had told them that the baby was stillborn. They had alleged a cover-up by the hospital. |

The girl, Neelam Sharma, is Haryana's first woman IFS officer, and has made many proud at her village Patharwali in Bhiwani. But her decision to marry Kuldeep Yadav - an IAS officer from Rewari has angered locals. Panchayat elders, who are all Brahmins are upset that Sharma is marrying someone outside her caste. In fact, so worried are the family about the village's reaction that local police are providing protection to Neelam's family until the wedding. Says Ashwin Shivne, Superintendent of Police in Bhiwani, "Few days ago some anti-social elements had surrounded the house. But they were all scuttled." |

Said Chavan, "With regard to the land developments in Pune, I have spoken to many people regarding the biodiversity parks, got many views and opinions and I told the government that I demand 4 per cent construction on hill tops and hill slopes.'' |

The whereabouts of Bhanwari Devi, who is alleged to have been in a relationship with sacked Rajasthan Congress minister Mahipal Maderna, is under the subject of a CBI investigation, but so far few leads have emerged as to her disappearance. But for the first time CBI investigators now say they have a clear picture of what happened to this mother of three children. Investigators say she was lured by one gang, who first drove her around and then handed her over to another gang who killed and disposed of her body. |

Indian scientists sequence first plant genome Posted: 02 Nov 2011 03:30 PM PDT In a major milestone, Indian scientists have for the first time sequenced the genetic make-up of a plant. For the first time in the country, scientists have successfully managed to sequence the genome or most of the genetic make-up of the arhar or pigeon pea plant. This will help breed higher yielding varieties and may also boost productivity. India currently imports arhar dal as domestic requirements cannot be met. |
