A day after the Centre arrived at an agreement with the Kuki tribe in Manipur over the creation of a separate district, thus resulting in the partial lifting of the economic blockade after 93 days, the government today exhorted the Nagas to also call off the blockade.

The air was charged with emotion as thousands gathered to pay their last respects to Reuben Fernandez at his funeral in Amboli church yesterday. Reuben was stabbed by a bunch of goons on October 20, and succumbed to his injuries on Monday. Tributes were led by his father, who solemnly acknowledged his 29-year-old son's untimely death in a poignant eulogy in the church.

Traffic snarls were seen at DND toll plaza here with commuters stranding at the gates due to shortage of change after the hike in toll rates for some categories of vehicles become effective from today. Toll prices increased from Rs 10 to Rs 11 for two wheelers and Rs 20 to Rs 22 for cars. Due to shortage of coins queues over a kilometer-long were formed on both Noida and Delhi ends.


City of Joy to have 'Eye' like London

Kolkata, once the capital of British India, is set to get a giant wheel on the lines of 'London Eye' which would give tourists a bird's eye view of the city. To be set up on the Hooghly riverfront, the giant wheel to be known as 'Kolkata Eye' would have a diameter of 150 to 180 metres with more than 30 viewing cabins. It will accommodate more than 500 people per revolution.

In another incident of innocent lives being lost due to rash driving, a speeding trailer trampled a 30-year-old woman and her three daughters, who were sleeping on the footpath outside their slum on St Louis Bridge at Reay Road in Mumbai, early Tuesday morning.
