British model targeted by sex traffickers Posted: A participant on "Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model" has said she was targeted by sex traffickers who wanted to move her to Italy Anastasia Bogatirjova, 19, who lives in Reading, was approached by a man who claimed to be from an international modelling agency. He asked her to move to Milan from her home country Latvia, but she turned down the offer, The Sun reported. Later, she was informed by police that the man was the ringleader of a human trafficking gang. Anastasia was spotted by the fake modelling agency at a beach party. "A policeman called my mum and said the agency were selling girls as prostitutes abroad. A lot of them were sent to Russia. It wasn't Milan at all," she said. "I have no idea what happened to any of the other girls. It's so scary and I'm so thankful I didn't go, or who knows where I would be now?"
Man jailed for infecting two women with HIV Posted: An African immigrant to Britain has been sent to jail for infecting two women with HIV and having unprotected sex with seven others, officials said Zimbabwe-born Nkosinati Mabanda, 44, had sex with all nine women even after being fully aware that he was HIV positive, The Sun reported. The immigrant carried on having sex with "blatant disregard" for the women's health, the Wolverhampton Crown Court heard. He was jailed for four years for causing grievous bodily harm. Police said they have been unable to trace the seven women to warn them to take tests. Mabanda may be deported at the end of his sentence. He was also given an Anti-social Behaviour Order ordering him to tell women in future about his condition before having sex with them. The man's health condition was known two years ago when a lover found a text message on his phone from his fiancee, and rang her. His fiancee advised her to get an HIV test which proved positive. Mabanda later told police he knew he had the virus. After the case, the victim called on other women to seek help.
Briton stabs wife 100 times after reading killing manual Posted: A Briton stabbed his wife at least 100 times, after researching on internet sites like "How to kill someone" and "Top 10 tips on how to commit the perfect crime", a court has heard Alfredo Merigo, 43, stabbed his wife with a steak knife as their two-year-old son sat near them in a chair. He later left his 40-year-old wife Linda dead on the driveway, the Sheffield Crown Court was told. Merigo also studied what kind of sentences were handed down for murder or manslaughter and looked at websites to see what prison life was like, the Daily Mail reported. The couple reportedly had a stormy relationship and Merigo allegedly murdered his wife because she refused to be reconciled with him. Though Merigo admitted manslaughter charges, he has denied committing murder. The couple married in 2008. But they frequently argued and Linda blamed her husband for being suspicious and attempting to control her. She moved out of their home in Driffield, Yorkshire, in April 2009 and began divorce proceedings. Linda moved to a rented house and her husband was not allowed on his estranged wife's property. But Merigo was keen to resume the relationship on a permanent basis, saying his son needed both parents around him. When she discovered he planned to move back in, she told him to go away and in a series of text messages told him he was "nasty" and "could not be trusted". A few days later, Merigo went to her house and stabbed her.
Bitter blow for phone box pub bid Posted: British villagers who tried to create the world's smallest pub by converting a red telephone box into an alehouse were served a bitter blow yesterday when record-keepers barred their entry. People in the village of Shepreth set up The Dog and Bone pub in the three-foot phone box for just one night. The tiny watering hole was established as part of a campaign to save the real village pub, The Plough. Guinness World Records said that The Dog and Bone could not be crowned the world's smallest pub for several reasons, including that it was not licensed to serve alcohol. "The phone box pub did not qualify to the record for the smallest pub because it failed to match our record guidelines," said a statement. "Pity The Plough's not open we could drown our sorrows," said Richard Handford, who is helping run the campaign to save The Plough. Did you know? The smallest permanent licensed bar remains the Smallest Whisky Bar on Earth in Graubunden, Switzerland

Medvedev in mystery super hero poster Posted: A mysterious poster depicting Russian President Dmitry Medvedev as Captain America, a skinny kid turned comic super hero, appeared yesterday in Moscow causing Kremlin irritation. Wearing a black leather jacket and leather gloves, the Russian president is shown in a spoof movie poster for Captain America: The First Avenger, a movie which hit US screens earlier this month. The words 'Captain of Russia. The First Ruler' are emblazoned across the Moscow poster. The poster depicting Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev as hero has upset the Kremlin and an official said it was some kind of stupidity Instead of a shield the comic superhero holds in the movie poster, the Russian president is depicted with a huge iPad in his hands. A Kremlin official, speaking on condition of anonymity, called the stunt 'some sort of stupidity.' The Kremlin and the government have been touchy about attempts to hijack the images of Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Earlier this month several placards posted round central Moscow depicted Putin as James Bond, causing the Russian government to protest the move. It is still not clear whether Putin or Medvedev will stand in presidential polls next year, with rival factions on both sides promoting their candidacy. In May, equally mysterious posters, apparently created by the same artist, showed Russia's ruling tandem posing in matching tennis shorts. The artist, who declined to give a name, has told the media the posters were 'street art.' He is believed to be behind several other making acerbic references to the Western military campaign in Libya and posted at www.monolog.tv One of his works shows Libyan strongman Moammar Gaddafi looking to rent a flat. But it is not clear who is behind the current Medvedev poster campaign.
Killer used drugs for strength Posted: Before going on a deadly rampage killing more than 70 people, Norwegian Breivick took drugs to make him 'strong and efficient'
The lawyer said it was too early to say if 32-year-old Breivik would plead insanity at his trial, expected to be a year away. He added that Breivik also believes the killings were justified because he was in 'war'. "He is sorry he had to do this but it was necessary to start the revolution in the Western world," he said. Lippestad said Breivik had stated he belonged to an anti-Islam network that has two cells in Norway and more abroad. He added the gunman was 'surprised' to have reached Utoya island so easily on Friday, when he carried out his attack on a Labour party youth camp. It was revealed yesterday that Breivik could be housed at the Halden prison, one of the most luxurious jails in the world. The prison is set in acres of peaceful woodland, has jogging routes, and even a modern two-bedroom house separate from the grounds where prisoners can spend time with their families for days. Every prisoner gets their own cell with a mini-fridge, a flat-screen TV and even a private bathroom and barless windows to let in more sunlight. What changed? What changed Breivik from a lonely mummy's boy into a maniac mass killer with a hatred of immigrants? According to his manifesto, he says that as a teenager his best friend was a Pakistani immigrant who loathed Norway and had been beaten him eight times, which later led him to think migration was ruining his country. Meanwhile, the father of Anders Breivik declared yesterday that he wished his son had killed himself. "'I don't feel like his father," he was quoted as saying.
Amy's ashes to be mixed with granny's Posted: Amy Winehouse was cremated yesterday in accordance with Jewish custom, and her family will fulfil her wish that her ashes are put with those of her grandmother, Cynthia, who died in 2006 from lung cancer. A family friend said, "We all hope Amy can finally find some peace." Amy idolised her grandmother, a jazz singer. The tattoo of a woman in a red shirt on the top of her right arm was said to depict her. She also had her grandmother's name tattooed on the arm. Meanwhile, Amy's ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil will not be attending the funeral, after he was not granted compassionate leave from jail where he is serving a 32-month sentence on charges of burglary and firearms offences. Mitch has also said to have warned Blake to stay away from the service.
7-yr-olds in pole dancing classes Posted: Girls as young as seven are being given pole dancing lessons. The saucy instruction is being offered to primary school-age girls in Bolton, Greater Manchester. The firm behind the classes defends them, saying it's all about improving their fitness. Controversial pole dancing classes are being offered to seven-year-olds as a fitness exercise But one unnamed parent said, "They advertise as being aerobics/ gymnastics with a pole but if you see the pictures, this is not the case." A Christian group and MP have previously slammed similar lessons for children as young as 12 in Plymouth, accusing them of "sexualising" young girls. Miss Pole Dance 2011 champion, Jess Norris, who runs the classes, insisted they were a "fantastic" way for kids to keep fit. She said, "There is nothing sexual about the classes. What I teach is pole fitness, nothing else. There is nothing at all rude going on."
