The FCC Pleases No One With Net-Neutrality Proposal (The Atlantic Wire) Posted: 01 Dec 2010 02:58 PM PST The Atlantic Wire - Today in Washington, FCC chairman Julius Genachowski is pitching his revised plans for new regulations on Internet service providers (ISPs). In the past year, Genachowski has faced staunch opposition from Congress and the telecom industry for trying to introduce "net neutrality" rules. Loosely defined, the rules have aimed to prevent ISPs from discriminating against certain types of Internet content by loading speeds or fees (especially from competing companies or websites). Genachowski's new proposal, which was leaked to the press, gives the FCC significantly less power to regulate ISPs and yet, Verizon, Comcast * and AT&T will likely oppose the new rules. |

Morning Vid: Jon Stewart to Media and Wikileaks, 'Stop With the Drama' (The Atlantic Wire) Posted: 01 Dec 2010 08:05 AM PST The Atlantic Wire - On last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart pooh-poohed the media storm surrounding WikiLeaks's "dump" of U.S. diplomatic cables. WikiLeaks, a whistle-blowing group, has attracted some harsh rhetoric from Sarah Palin and GOP Rep. Peter King, who fear the organization's publication of confidential government documents is motivated by a desire to harm U.S. security. Stewart mocked this theory, calling WikiLeaks founder, and "new supervillian," Julian Assange "Osama bin Laden crossed with Magnito and the albino from The Matrix, with more than a scooch of the Dyson Vacuum guy." |
