Myanmar pro-democracy leader Suu Kyi meets UN official Posted: Released Myanmar pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi met a senior UN official on Saturday and said that she hopes the talks will be the first of many to solve the country's problems. Suu Kyi met for more than an hour with Vijay Nambiar, chief of staff for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his special envoy to the military-controlled country. |

Pak: Cargo plane crashes into Karachi housing complex Posted: A cargo plane crashed into a housing complex in Karachi soon after takeoff on Sunday, setting off a huge blaze and killing all eight Russian crew on board, Pakistan's civil aviation authority said. At least one person on the ground was injured, but the Russian-made plane missed several densely populated apartment blocks by a few hundred yards (metres). |

More than one third of South African men admit to rape: Study Posted: More than a third of South African men in a new survey admitted to committing rape at some point in their lives, the study's authors said on Saturday. The survey, by the government-funded Medical Research Council and non-profit organisation Gender Links, found that 37.4 per cent of men in the north-central province of Gauteng admitted to committing rape at some point in their lives, while 25.3 per cent of women said they had been victims of rape. |

At a funeral on Saturday in Seongnam, near Seoul, dignitaries and relatives placed white flowers at a funeral alter for the two marines killed in last Tuesday's attack on a South Korean island.
