Castro claims Osama bin Laden is a CIA agent

Posted:

Former Cuban President Fidel Castro has claimed that Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, is a CIA agent, who was always summoned whenever former US President George W Bush needed to scare the world.

He claimed that he came to know about it after reading documents posted in 'WikiLeaks'.

He also alleged that Laden was working for the White House.

"Bush never lacked for Laden's support, he was a subordinate. Any time Bush would stir up fear and make a big speech, Laden would appear, threatening people with a story about what he was going to do," The Guardian quoted Castro, as saying.

He further stated that thousands of pages of American classified documents made public by WikiLeaks pointed to who the Al-Qaeda leader is really working for.

"Who showed that Laden is indeed a CIA agent was WikiLeaks. It proved it with documents," Castro added, but did not explain exactly how.

He made his comments during a meeting with Daniel Estulin, the author of three books about the secretive Bilderberg Club, which includes the former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, leading European officials and business executives.

Estulin says the club is a secret world government, manipulating economies and political systems.

Estulin said the man seen in videos since 9/11 terror attacks is not Laden at all, but a 'bad actor'.

Firing near US consulate in Peshawar

Posted:

A group of militants entered the high security area near the US consulate in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar on Saturday, triggering a gun battle with security forces.

There was no official word on the incident, though TV news channels reported that the militants were holed up in the area near the US consulate, which is located within the Peshawar cantonment, and exchanging heavy fire with security forces. The TV channels also reported that some militants had stormed a government building.

A large number of police personnel, including many in plainclothes, and army soldiers were deployed in the area. They blocked key roads and sealed off the area near Shama Chowk. Helicopters were used to mount aerial surveillance of the area. There was no word from authorities on whether there were any casualties in the attack.

This is the second attempt by militants to target the US consulate in Peshawar. On April 5, militants armed with automatic weapons and suicide car bombs tried to storm the consulate, killing three persons. At least six attackers were gunned down or blew themselves up.

Falling coconut kills Colombian man

Posted:

A man died after a falling coconut hit him on the head while he was relaxing in the shade of a coconut palm in the Colombian town of Melgar.

Jose Abelino Ramirez, 69, was resting in a rocking chair on Thursday, as he did every afternoon, when a coconut fell from a 12-metre-tall palm tree outside his home.

The autopsy found that Ramirez suffered injuries to the skull and brain that caused his death.

"A neighbor saw the coconut fall and immediately called us to help. We managed to get him to the hospital but unfortunately he died," said Jose Norberto Jimenez, president of the Community Action Board of Melgar's Icacal neighborhood.

Religion behind attack: Cabbie

Posted:

The cab driver who was stabbed by a passenger says he was definitely attacked because of his religion.

Ahmed Sharif was stabbed repeatedly while driving his taxi on the East Side.

He says the suspect, 21-year-old Michael Enright, attacked him after first asking whether he was Muslim.
Despite the attack, Sharif said that he still loves New York.

"This is a city of all colours, races, all religion, everyone," he said. "We live here, side by side, peacefully."
Sharif also said the controversial plan for a mosque near Ground Zero did not come up in the conversation with Enright before the stabbing.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly says officers found an empty bottle of scotch in Enright's backpack. They also found several journals, some written when Enright was embedded with troops in Afghanistan.

Governor David Paterson spoke out about the attack, saying it's just what the terrorists wanted when they attacked the US on 9/11.

However, the governor also said the driver's religion may have not prompted the attack, and such incidents often involve underlying mental health problems.
