Heavy fighting around Syrian capital: activists Posted: 26 Jun 2012 01:03 AM PDT BEIRUT (Reuters) - Clashes between state forces and rebels shook suburbs around the Syrian capital Damascus on Tuesday in what activists said was the heaviest fighting there since the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began 15 months ago. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said security forces and armored vehicles stormed the neighborhood of Barzeh, an opposition foothold in the capital, and there were sounds of heavy gunfire. The revolt against Assad's rule has become increasingly violent in response to an army crackdown. ... |
Three dead in Mexico airport gunfight between police Posted: 25 Jun 2012 07:58 PM PDT MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Three policemen died in a shootout with two other officers suspected of drug trafficking at Mexico City's airport on Monday, as panicked travelers scrambled for cover in the busy facility. The shootout occurred when three federal officers approached the two suspects in the airport's Terminal 2, which handles international and domestic flights.
