| 'Shameless' sex scene during news show leaves viewers horrified Posted: Television viewers were left stunned when a sex scene appeared in the background during a Scottish news debate show. As Ed Miliband's leadership of the Labour Party was debated on Scotland Tonight, a naked blonde-haired woman could be seen on a studio TV screen. The raunchy clip - which appeared on STV - is thought to have been from an episode of Channel 4 drama 'Shameless'. The image appeared on screen for a few seconds as host John MacKay questioned political blogger Dan Hodges. Hodges was in ITN's London studio when the naked woman appeared on the screen behind him after the watershed. Shadow Scotland Office Minister Willie Bain was also involved in the debate. Later the broadcaster was forced to apologise for the mistake after viewer Paul Traynor made a formal complaint. An insider told the Daily Mail that no one in the newsroom realised the blunder had happened until they watched the footage back. "It's unfortunate but in a busy newsroom we have monitors showing the various TV channels. You can only see the scene for a few seconds and the vast majority of viewers probably won't even have spotted it," the insider said. "However, it was probably a bit of a distraction and not exactly what they expected to see on Scotland Tonight. "The show was on after the watershed but we will try not to let it happen again," he added. A spokesman for STV said: "We hope viewers weren't too distracted by the unexpected and incidental content on the show. | ||
| Indian teacher left stunned after finding $9.8bn bank balance Posted: A teacher in India got the shock of his life when he checked his bank account online and found 9.8 billion dollars (490 billion rupees). Parijat Saha expected his balance to be 200 dollars, but he could not believe his eyes when a check at an ATM confirmed his billionaire status, on paper at least. The honest man rang the State Bank of India (SBI) to point out the error. Red-faced bank officials would not comment, but sources claim that the funds were "uncleared" and he could not have withdrawn the money if he had tried. Saha's monthly salary as a school teacher in the eastern state of West Bengal is 35,000 rupees (700 dollars). His account balance of 9.8 billion dolars is closer to India's annual education budget of 11.5 billion dollars. "On Sunday evening, when I was checking my savings account balance on the internet, I was expecting an amount of a little more than 10,000 rupees (200 dollars)," The BBC quoted Saha, who lives in the town of Balurghat in South Dinajpur district as saying. "I called up a friend in the bank and joked, maybe money is overflowing in your bank, that's why your system has remitted so much money into my account," he said. The government-run bank with the motto "Safe Banking with SBI", has not explained what happened. Subhashish Karmakar, chief manager of the bank's branch in Balurghat, declined to speak about the source of the funds or how the money got into Saha's account. "I have been specifically asked not to comment on this issue," Karmakar said. The bank's regional headquarters in Calcutta and national headquarters in Mumbai have been alerted and officials are trying to figure out what went wrong, sources in the bank revealed. Saha said that he has managed to withdraw the 200 dollars from his account that belonged to him. "Even though I got my money back, the account still holds the billions of dollars as uncleared amount. "I don't know how long I'll have to keep that astronomical figure in my account," he added. | ||
| Hindus suggest Oprah to take a dip in holy Ganges Posted: Oprah Winfrey is reportedly scheduled to visit the holy city of Rishikesh in India and Hindus are suggesting her to immerse in yoga, meditation and take a dip in sacred river Ganges while she is there. Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that Winfrey should make use of her trip to India to "rediscover" herself by spending some time in an ashram (hermitage) and taking a dip in holy Ganges. It is believed that a bath in the sacred Ganges purifies one of all sin, and its water, if taken daily, confers immortality. It finds mention in Rig-Veda, oldest existing scripture of mankind. Rajan Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out that ashram stay would help bring Winfrey tranquility, spirituality and serenity. Lord Krishna himself went to sage Sandipani's ashram to gain knowledge, Zed added. Ganges flows through Rishikesh (in Uttarakhand state), known as Gateway to Himalayas, which attracts large number of pilgrims from around the world. It is a vegetarian and alcohol-free city; full of temples, yoga centers and ashrams; and nicknamed "World Capital of Yoga". It is said to have been visited by Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana; and Hindu scholars Swami Vivekananda, Swami Rama Tirtha and Swami Shivananda studied here. In 1968, The Beatles stayed in an ashram in Rishikesh to contemplate and meditate and composed 48 songs during that time. "The Happy Rishikesh Song" was recorded by John Lennon. Winfrey is currently in India on a week-long trip. | ||
| I tripped and fell into life boat, says Captain Posted: Francesco Schettino, nicknamed Captain Coward, provided this amazing excuse while being questioned in court; he has been sent to house arrest
During his hearing with investigating magistrate Valeria Montesarchio at a court in Grosseto, he stressed again he had 'not abandoned ship' and added, "The passengers were rushing all over the decks trying to scramble into the lifeboats. I didn't even have a lifejacket because I had given it to one of the passengers " I was trying to get them into the lifeboats in an orderly fashion. All of a sudden the boat listed between 60-70 degrees, I got trapped and ended up in one of the lifeboats. That's why I was in there." He still insisted he had 'saved thousands of lives', although he admitted he had made a mistake by sailing so close to the island of Giglio tearing a 70 metre gash in the hull of the Concordia. Prosecutors said his explanation was 'curious to say the least' and added that he would also be subjected to drug and alcohol tests as part of the investigation. Prosecutors said they were surprised that Schettino had been given house arrest. Ship sinks to Titanic song |
