Soon, 34 more schools can enjoy the e-toilet facility in the district. The Government Girls High School in Ernakulam is the first school in the country to have e-toilet with five units on the campus. It was opened with much fanfare on July 29 this year.

Udayanidhi Stalin, son of DMK leader M K Stalin, who apprehended arrest in a land grabbing case, was today granted anticipatory bail by the Madras High Court. There may not be any likelihood to tamper with evidence or hamper witnesses, Justice S Palanivelu said while granting the bail and directed Udayanidhi Stalin to furnish a personal bond for Rs 10,000 with two sureties for like amounts.

5 Sabarimala devotees drown in Bhadra river

Five persons from Andhra Pradesh, who were returning from Sabarimala, drowned in a whirlpool in the Bhadra river near Hebbalagandi between Kalasa and Horanadu here and were washed away on Tuesday evening. Efforts are on to trace the missing bodies. The victims have been identified as Gopi, Chittibabu, Tygaraj, Gajendra, and Madana. One Tulasiram managed to swim to the shore safely.


1 lakh students trained through e-literacy move

An Intel-Kerala Government e-literacy initiative launched seven years ago has successfully trained one lakh students, John E Davies, vice-president, World Ahead Programme, Intel, said on Tuesday.The Intel Learn Programme was rolled out through Akshaya centres and was jointly implemented by the American multinational and the Kerala State IT Mission. Since 2004, one lakh students between the ages of eight and 25 years underwent training, which, according to Davies, enables the three E-s; 'education, entrepreneurship and employability'.

State Bank of Travancore (SBT) has announced a hike in interest rates for NRE deposits with effect from December 2, 2011. As per the revision, interest rates for NRE term deposits for periods from one year to less than two years will be 3.82 per cent; two years to less than three years 3.51 per cent; and three years and above up to five years 3.64 per cent.
