Now, lap-dance your way to debt-free premium college degree! Posted: The bosses of a lap-dancing chain have said that hard-up students anxious about piling up their debts should consider working as lap dancers. John Specht, UK vice president of Spearmint Rhino, a chain of strip clubs operating throughput UK, US, Europe, Russia and Australia, said that girls who join the club do so, so that they can earn money and survive. "These girls earn a lot. Some of these girls are on their own and their parents can't help them or are unable to help them," the Daily Mail quoted him as saying. "With the rising student fees the students know that they can come in and earn the money they need to survive," he stated. Specht's comments come as students enrolling this September face paying up to 9,000 pounds in tuition fees, with some leaving university with debts in excess of 50,000 pounds. "Spearmint Rhino is a safe, fun environment. We don't force anyone to come in. If the girls are looking do this type of entertainment and make good money and enjoy their work then why not, it's great money. These girls earn a lot. "The students know they can come in and earn the money they need. Times get harder and things go up people will turn to alternative means of income to earn money," he added. |
'Underwear bomber' claims Anwar al-Awlaki is alive during court hearing Posted: A Nigerian man, who is accused of trying to blow up an airliner over the US on Christmas 2009, claimed during the court hearing in the US that American-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki "is still alive." "Anwar is alive," said Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the man dubbed as the "Underwear Bomber". "The mujahadeen will wipe out the US-the cancer US," he added. According to Fox News, al-Awlaki, who was killed by a joint CIA air strike in Yemen, was directly involved in the failed Christmas 2009 plot on a commercial jet and failed October 2010 plot on cargo planes. He trained Abdulmutallab how to detonate the bomb he is accused of hiding in his underwear, said an FBI bulletin. "AQAP external operations to date have focused on the aviation subsector, and the group has also revealed its interest in carrying out an attack against the United States using unconventional means, such as chemical or biological agents," the bulletin read. The bulletin added that Awlaki recruited operatives and facilitated training camps in Yemen for Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and has played a role targeting the US since 2009. According to the report, Abdulmutallab, a well-educated Nigerian from an upper-class family, was directed by Awlaki and wanted to become a martyr when he boarded Northwest Airlines Flight 253 in Amsterdam in 2009. |

Hacker group threatens to erase NYSE from Internet Posted: Notorious hacker group Anonymous has threatened to hack into the computer system of the New York Stock Exchange According to an FBI investigation, members of the hacker group have "declared war on the New York Stock Exchange" on Monday by threatening to "erase" it from the Internet. "The FBI is aware of these schemes and threats and is looking into the matter," Fox news quoted a FBI spokesman Tim Flannelly, as saying. The hackers have reportedly said that they plan to launch a DDoS (or distributed denial of service) attack on the NYSE's computer systems. "We can no longer stay silent as the population is being exploited and forced to make sacrifices in the name of profit. We will show the world that we are true to our word. On October 10, NYSE shall be erased from the Internet, expect a day that will never, ever, be forgotten," said a video, which was addressed to the media. A digital flier has been circulated online with the banner "Operation Invade Wall Street, with instructions how to participate in "three simple steps." Would be participants are also urged to "spread the F-word," the report said. Anonymous representatives have, however, denied the plans. A second letter has been posted online, also with Anonymous on the masthead, that references rumors of the planned attack and disclaims the group's association. "We have taken notice to a planned attack which has been named #InvadeWallStreet. We strongly advise against this action and everything it entails to," the letter read. |
Woman celebrating her birthday dies in helicopter crash Posted: A British woman celebrating her 40th birthday died after she and her family plunged into a New York river inside a tourist helicopter Sonia Marra Nicholson was trapped inside the helicopter for around two hours after it crash landed and sank to the bottom of the East River, off the coast of Manhattan, the Telegraph reports. According to witnesses the vehicle, a Bell 206 Jet Ranger, entered the water upside down, with its landing gear visible, and was submerged in the water. "I thought, ''Is that some daredevil move?' But it was obviously out of control. The body spun around at least two or three times, and then it went down," the paper quoted an eyewitness, as saying. The helicopter was last night removed from the river with a crane by the US Army Corps of Engineers. |
Case against Hazare supporters dropped in Dubai Posted: The Dubai Public Prosecution has reportedly dropped the cases against five Indians who were arrested on charges of violating UAE national security laws after they organised a walk in support of anti-corruption campaigner Anna Hazare "All the charges against those five people have been dropped by the Public Prosecution as their intention was bonafide and they did not want to do anything against the state or disturb the peace here. Also, there were no charges against them in UAE or India and had no cirminal background," Gulfnews quoted their advocate Hashik T.K., as saying. The Dubai Police had arrested the supporters on August 21 after they organised a walk at Al Mamzar Beach Park to express solidarity with Hazare''s agitation in India for the introduction of a strong anti-corruption law in India. The supporters were arrested on charges of violating the UAE''s national security laws. Their bail was initially rejected on August 25 as the preliminary investigation had not been completed following which they spent nine more days in the jail while the courts were closed for the Eid holidays. They were granted bail in the first week of September after the General Public Prosecution considered that the intention of the accused was only to express their support toward a good cause in their home country and not to violate the local laws. |

Posted: Dramatic reversal of Amanda Knox's murder conviction stunned the victim's family, angered the prosecution and left questions unanswered over who killed her roommate Amanda Knox flew home to Seattle, USA, yesterday after four years in an Italian prison, as the dramatic reversal of her murder conviction stunned the victim's family, angered the prosecution and left questions unanswered over who killed her British roommate. Free at last: Amanda Knox reacts after she was found innocent in the Meredith Kercher murder case at a court in Italy. Pic/AFP Prosecutors who saw their case collapse over discredited DNA evidence are appealing the innocent verdicts of Knox and co-defendant Raffaele Sollecito to Italy's highest court. The family of the victim, 21-year-old Meredith Kercher, said during an emotional news conference that they were back to "square one". "If those two are not the guilty parties, then who are the guilty people?" asked Lyle Kercher, brother of the victim. A lawyer for the sole man now convicted for the stabbing death of Kercher, Ivory Coast native Rudy Hermann Guede, said he would seek a retrial. Prosecutors had maintained the three killed Kercher during a lurid, drug-fueled sex game. To Knox, the verdict means freedom after four years behind bars and under the spotlight of an international press focused on her every word or gesture. The case has been a cause celebre in the US, and a staple of British tabloids, which took to calling her 'Foxy Knoxy.' |
Paper clip, the invention we can't live without Posted: Forget fancy phones and gizmos, scientists are now hailing the humble paper clip to plastic holders for beer cans as the design classics that we cannot live without. From elastic bands to bubblewrap, experts have compiled a list of inventions that cost mere pennies but are a vital part of everyday life for billions of people. They may not be as revered as the latest iPhone or as celebrated as the PC tablet but are just as much a 'genius' product and possibly more influential, they say. The Hidden Heroes exhibition at the Science Museum from next month celebrates around 40 breakthrough inventions most people probably take for granted. The exhibition was devised by Hi-Cone, the little known manufacturers of the plastic ring carriers that hold six packs of beer or multiple packs of soft drinks. Hi-Cone Director Ton Hoppenbrouwers said, "The objective of the Hi-Cone hidden heroes exhibition is to highlight the genius of everyday things and the remarkable technologies that sit behind the contents of kitchen drawers." He added, "Whether the products hang our clothes, make tea or hold a six-pack, they are indispensible to consumers. They are design classics which do their job brilliantly. Yes, they evolve to meet changing needs, but they do not change dramatically." Kate's wedding gown raises Rs 760 crore Posted: The Duchess of Cambridge's wedding dress attracted a record number of visitors while it was on display at Buckingham Palace this summer. Exact audience numbers are not available. However, a palace representative has confirmed that more than 6,00,000 people visited the exhibit to catch a glimpse of the stunning gown Catherine wore when she married Britain's Prince Williams at Westminster Abbey in April. The previous best was 4,20,000 visitors in 1994, and last year's figure was 4,13,000. The duchess' beautiful satin and lace gown designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen helped raise the turnout by around 50 per cent. A spokeswoman for the Royal Collection -- which organises the annual exhibit -- has addressed the record numbers. "It is an incredible figure. It is easily a record. We were thrilled to welcome people from all over the world and delighted it has been such a huge success." The dress is now set to go into storage. According to a source, Catherine wants to keep the gown in pristine condition. "[She] is keen to ensure that the dress survives undamaged for as long as possible, and so this inevitably means limiting the number of times that it is transported or displayed," the source explained. Prince Harry in 'Sexiest' list Prince Harry was ranked 10 on Glamour's list of Sexiest Men Alive. Twilight star Edward Pattinson was ranked 1 on the list. |
'Sexy chicken' ruffles feathers Posted: Peta all riled up over a newspaper photograph featuring a provocatively positioned chicken, calls it ghastly A photo of a chicken published in The New York Times has sparked a debate between animal welfare groups. PeTA has spoken out about the photo of a fresh whole chicken lying in a controversial pose. Hot chick: PeTA has called the advert sickly and downright offensive not only to vegetarians but to everyone and accused New York Times of necrophilia. The image, which featured on the front page of the broadsheet's Dining and Wine section, outraged extreme vegan organisation PeTA. Offensive "When I saw it I just couldn't believe that an editor of The New York Times would find it acceptable," said PeTA founder and president Ingrid Newkirk. "It's downright offensive, not just to people who care about animals but almost to everyone. It's [a] plucked, beheaded, young chicken in a young pose. It's necrophilia. It's not amusing. It's just ghastly and sickly." Rather than weighing in on the argument, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) instead drew attention to PeTA's hypocritical stance. PeTA is the organisation that encourages celebrities like Eva Mendes, Khloe Kardashian and more recently, Australian Ruby Rose, to strip down to promote their anti-fur message, Fur? I'd Rather Go Naked. "While PeTA chooses to use celebrities and images of scantily clad young women to publicise many of their campaigns, the RSPCA is an animal welfare organisation which bases its policies on science and common sense," said RSPCA spokesman Tim Mayne. PeTA is no stranger to the sex sells message. The organisation is now in the process of launching an adult's only site containing X-rated images alongside messages regarding the cruelty involved in the slaughtering of chickens. Meanwhile, a Twitter account called @NYTchicken, also known as Sexy Chicken, appeared, mocking the controversy between PeTA and the newspaper. Tweets from the so-called Sexy Chicken include messages like "Yes. They're real. Now, stop staring at them" and "I know you've been checking me out and asking about me. There's no need to be shy. Yes, I'm organic. And, yes, I am single." The account now has risen to viral fame with around 1,600 followers, but is currently only following the Twitter accounts of Chickens on Camera, Kentucky Fried Chicken and New York Times Dining Editor Pete Wells. The chicken also added that she felt like Scarlett Johansson. 1,600 The number of followers Sexy Chicken has on Twitter |
Truck bomb in Somalia kills 70: Rescue official Posted: Militants detonated a truck bomb today in front of the Ministry of Education in Mogadishu, killing at least 70 people, wounding dozens and shattering a relative calm that had prevailed in the Somali capital for weeks. The bomb blew up after coming to a halt at a security checkpoint. It left blackened corpses on the debris-strewn street and set other vehicles alight. Uniformed soldiers were seen dragging the wounded away. Ali Muse, the chief of Mogadishu's ambulance service, told The Associated Press that at least 70 people died and at least 42 others were wounded. The al-Qaida-linked group al-Shabab immediately claimed responsibility for Tuesday's attack on a website it uses. It was the biggest attack in Somalia's capital since al-Shabab withdrew most of its forces in August amid an offensive by African Union forces. The group had been expected to fight back with guerrilla-style attacks, including car bombs. Several car bombs have been defused or exploded before reaching their targets in recent weeks. Ali Hussein, a police officer in Mogadishu, said the vehicle blew up after pulling up to a checkpoint at the entrance to the Ministry of Education. Suicide bombings were unheard of in Somalia before 2007 but have become increasingly frequent. Al-Shabab claims allegiance to al-Qaida, which often uses car bombs and appears bent on gaining a foothold in the Horn of Africa. Al-Shabab includes militant veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts who have trained Somalis in tactics like suicide bombs and sniper fire. The group carried out a double suicide bombing in Uganda in July 2010 that killed 76 people watching the World Cup final on television. Americans of Somali heritage also have joined the group. |
