South Africa denies visa to Dalai Lama; worse than Aparthied says Desmond Tutu Posted: 05 Oct 2011 01:14 AM PDT Calling it "worse than the apartheid" regime, an angry Archbishop Desmond Tutu on Tuesday lambasted the South African government over its failure to issue a visa to the Dalai Lama, and warned it to "watch out". Tutu's outburst came after the Tibetan spiritual leader cancelled his visit to South Africa to receive an international award named after Mahatma Gandhi. |

Perlmutter, Schmidt, Riess win Nobel physics prize Posted: 04 Oct 2011 08:49 AM PDT Three U.S.-born scientists won the Nobel Prize in physics on Tuesday for a study of exploding stars that discovered that the expansion of the universe is accelerating. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said American Saul Perlmutter would share the 10 million kronor ($1.5 million) award with U.S.-Australian Brian Schmidt and U.S. scientist Adam Riess "for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the universe through observations of distant supernovae." |
