While three of them are still closed, the Khan Market station was opened after a four-and-half-hour shutdown.

A three-year-old girl was burnt alive allegedly by her drunk father in Kherwadi village of suburban Malwani in Mumbai, police said today. The accused Veerappan Kaunder (37), who works as a conservation worker with the city's civic body on a contract basis, allegedly poured kerosene on his daughter Shiv Shankari and five-year-old son Shabari last night after which he set the girl on fire, they said adding that the boy managed to run out of the house.

An all-girls team from Mumbai that was invited to be part of a Dahi Handi celebration in Pune, was in for a shock after it was teased and harassed by locals at Gokhale Nagar in Wadarwadi. The unruly locals forced them out of their car when they learnt that the group had been brought in exclusively for an all-girls Dahi Handi event. The girls from the Agripada Mahila Govinda Pathak were detained for almost six hours and forced to break their handi before being allowed to leave.

Woman arrested for killing mother-in-law

A woman has been arrested, along with three others, in south Delhi for killing her mother-in-law and robbing her jewellery. Sumitra (30), with the help of the other co-accused, murdered her 55-year-old mother-in-law while the latter was sleeping and then looted her jewellery on August 11.

5 heart attacks within 3 hours

Day nine at Ramlila Maidan witnessed five people suffering heart attacks within a short span of three hours. The India Against Corruption medical camp has registered nine cases of heart attacks in till now. Dr. Sanjeev Chhiber, who is a senior cancer specialist and is leading the team of doctors at the camp said, "Five patients had suffered heart attacks in Ramlila Maidan today and we treated them immediately and subsequently sent them to LNJP Hospital for further care."

A Mexican woman was allegedly raped by a local youth at Laxman Jhoola area of Pauri district near Rishikesh, police said today. The 29-year-old woman met a tourist guide Himanshu Thapaliyal, who took her around nearby Narendranagar and Fakot areas in his motorcycle yesterday, they said. However, instead of leaving her back at an ashram at Tapovan area where she was staying, he took her to nearby jungles and raped her, police said.

Gold and silver ornaments worth about Rs 40 lakh were recovered on Wednesday within six hours of being allegedly stolen, police said. Mahesh alias Velraj, an employee of a jewellery polishing shop, was arrested at around 4:30 am on Thursday at the new bus stand for allegedly stealing the ornaments, Salem City Commissioner of Police, C Chokkalingam, told reporters.

Tripura police on Thursday arrested a private tutor for chopping off the hand of a girl student and injuring her mother. "Sanjoy Das, 40, attacked a middle aged woman and her daughter Susmita Das, 19, with a 'Dao' (a sharp weapon), severing one of Susmita's hands and the fingers of other," a police spokesman said.

Extortionists targeting realtors land in cop net

The police succeeded in nabbing a gang that was extorting money from prominent realtors in the city by sending them death threats. According to the police, the accused Gangadhar (29), Madan Kumar (22) and Santosh (20) were habitual offenders, who have been trying to extort huge sums from realtors over the past few months. The modus operandi of the gang was to scout the area, gather details of realtors, including their business transactions and frequently visited locations, and then make death-threats.
