Three-year-old girl burnt alive by drunk father in Mumbai Posted: 26 Aug 2011 12:22 AM PDT A three-year-old girl was burnt alive allegedly by her drunk father in Kherwadi village of suburban Malwani in Mumbai, police said today. The accused Veerappan Kaunder (37), who works as a conservation worker with the city's civic body on a contract basis, allegedly poured kerosene on his daughter Shiv Shankari and five-year-old son Shabari last night after which he set the girl on fire, they said adding that the boy managed to run out of the house. |

The unruly locals forced them out of their car when they learnt that the group had been brought in exclusively for an all-girls Dahi Handi event. The girls from the Agripada Mahila Govinda Pathak were detained for almost six hours and forced to break their handi before being allowed to leave. |

The 29-year-old woman met a tourist guide Himanshu Thapaliyal, who took her around nearby Narendranagar and Fakot areas in his motorcycle yesterday, they said. However, instead of leaving her back at an ashram at Tapovan area where she was staying, he took her to nearby jungles and raped her, police said. |
