GE tops Wall Street estimates on overseas demand (Reuters) Posted: 22 Jul 2011 08:09 AM PDT Reuters - General Electric Co notched a better-than-expected 21.6 percent rise in earnings, helped by strong demand for jet engines as well as equipment used in oil and natural gas production.
Caterpillar profit misses, shares fall (Reuters) Posted: 22 Jul 2011 08:04 AM PDT Reuters - Heavy machinery maker Caterpillar Inc disappointed Wall Street with a second-quarter earnings miss on Friday, hurt by higher costs for raw materials and labor, and its shares fell 6.5 percent in morning trading, dragging down the U.S. stock market.

Insight: Fake Apple store cuts to core of China risk to brands (Reuters) Posted: 22 Jul 2011 05:51 AM PDT Reuters - A fake Apple store in China, made famous by a blog that said even the staff working there didn't realize it was a bogus outlet, is probably the most audacious example to date of the risks Western companies face in the booming Chinese market.

Analysis:Summit pact puts eurozone on bumpy road to fiscal union (Reuters) Posted: 22 Jul 2011 07:48 AM PDT Reuters - Angela Merkel will deny it, but Thursday's euro zone deal to rescue Greece again from the brink of bankruptcy puts Europe on the bumpy road to a fiscal union.
3 Stocks Near 52-Week Highs Worth Selling (The Motley Fool) Posted: 22 Jul 2011 08:27 AM PDT The Motley Fool - With a resolution to the U.S. debt ceiling still miles away and a long-term solution to Greece's debt troubles still not solidly on the table, it may seem odd that the S&P 500 is bucking the trend and flirting with new multi-year highs. For optimists, these rallies may seem like a dream come true. For skeptics like me, they're opportunities to see whether companies trading near their 52-week highs have actually earned their current valuations.

Chart: Google+ Hit 10 Million Users 50 Times Faster Than Facebook (The Atlantic Wire) Posted: 22 Jul 2011 08:50 AM PDT The Atlantic Wire - Today's Chart of the Day demonstrates just how quickly Google+ has grown since its launch on June 18. It compares the amount of time it took each of the three major social networks to reach 10 million users. (We can call Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ the Big Three now, right? Just like the Big Three in the American auto industry, or the Miami Heat.) The chart has been making its rounds across the Internet today since its creator, Leon Håland, uploaded it on Google+ (of course). It only took 16 days for the nascent social network to sign up 10 million users, which is approximately 50 times faster than Twitter's or Facebook's dash to that mark.
