Karnataka Budget 2011 aimed at farmers Posted: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa presented the state budget today - and there was very little doubt as to who he was trying to please. It was a pro-farmer budget all the way from reducing the interest rate on crop loans from 3 per cent to 1 per cent to interest-free loans for higher education for the children of farmers. |

PM Manmohan Singh defends Telecom policy in Parliament Posted: On the back foot in the face of multiple scams, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today defened the telecom policy in place but admitted that implementation may be faulty. He said all the problems relating to the 2G spectrum allocation will be looked into by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) besides Public Account Committee (PAC), and if there are any criminal aspects, they are already being looked into by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). |

Orissa hostage crisis: Collector still not freed Posted: District Collector Vineel Krishna has been held hostage for a week by Naxals in Orissa. After extensive negotiations between the government and Naxals, Mr Krishna was meant to be released last night along with an engineer, Pabitra Majhi, who had been kidnapped with him from Malkangiri. However, the Naxals now say they will hold onto him till they get custody of five of their leaders who are currently in jail. |
