Aussie prostitute jailed for 'robbing and stripping' Posted: A prostitute in northern Australia has been sentenced to eight months rigorous imprisonment for allegedly robbing a takeaway shop and then stripping while she absconded from the scene. According to the NT News, Darwin Supreme Court heard that 25-year-old Angela Elizabeth Honeysett removed her purple top as she rushed away from the Subway restaurant, leaving staff and customers stupefied, reports the Courier Mail. The topless bandit then placed herself into a getaway car and fled away just minutes before police reached the spot. Honeysett allegedly brandished a knife at a staff and threw a pink drawstring carry bag on to the counter ordering the shop assistant to replete it with cash. Posted: Pope Benedict XVI shuts down Rome monastery and kicks out its monks after it gained notoriety for hosting a performance by a lap dancer-turned-nun Pope Benedict XVI has shut down a 1,500-year-old famous monastery in Rome that organised dances by a stripper-turned nun and hosted VIPs like Madonna. Vatican officials have launched an inquiry following claims of 'liturgical abuse' at the monastery, after reports that the nuns were dancing around the altar during services. Among them was sister Anna Nobili (38), who became an overnight YouTube sensation after footage of the stripper-turned-nun preaching was posted on the Internet. Heavens above: Rome's Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem played host to dancing nuns including Anna Nobili. The Vatican's Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life, which investigates allegations of misconduct in monasteries and convents, began their investigation after reports of the dancing nuns reached Pope Benedict. The order of Cistercian monks is based in the monastery, which is in Rome's Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem. It is one of the Catholic Church's most popular shrines and contains relics from Christ's Crucifixion. In recent years, it has become the focal point for the Friends of Santa Croce, an aristocratic group who have attracted criticism for their unorthodox interpretation of religion -- including the dancing nuns -- although they were not part of the order. "The decision to investigate the monastery was launched after reports were received of what was going on there -- we need to remember this is a holy shrine containing relics of Christ," said a Vatican source. "It was evident that the order had lapsed in its discipline and an Apostolic visitation was arranged, which resulted in the decision to close the monastery which was approved by Pope Benedict," he added. It is not the first time the monastery has been the subject of controversy. Two years ago the abbot there Father Simone Fioraso, a flamboyant former designer, was removed following allegations of homosexuality. Three years ago, Madonna visited the basilica and spent more than an hour there on a guided tour of the relics after being secretly smuggled in through a side door. The order has been at the basilica for more than 1500 years and the monks and nuns there have now been moved to other monasteries and convents across Italy. Vatican spokesman Fr Ciro Benedetti confirmed that the monastery had closed. Dancing nun Anna Nobili says she uses dance as a form of prayer, lies spread-eagled in front of the altar clutching a crucifix or twists and turns as in pole-dancing routines. |
Now, online dating site for pedigree dogs Posted: An online 'dating site for dogs' goes live today in a bid to improve the health of pedigree animals. The Mate Select service, now available through the Kennel Club website, enables owners to assess how a proposed mating of two registered pedigree dogs will affect the genetic diversity of the whole breed. It will also allow breeders and prospective buyers to check official health test results of all Kennel Club registered dogs, to see whether the puppies from two adults are likely to be healthy. Puppy love: The website will allow breeders to match the compatibility of two dogs based on the contribution that they will make to the long-term health of the breed. Representation pic The service is another step by the Kennel Club to tackle concerns over genetic diseases in pedigree dogs, sparked by a BBC documentary which claimed animals bred for shows such as Crufts were suffering a high degree of genetic illness. The Mate Select services attempt to ensure genetic diversity within pedigree breeds, to prevent the concentration of harmful genes which can cause illness and debilitating conditions, is in addition to moves such as banning matings between close relatives. Professor Jeff Sampson, Kennel Club chief scientific adviser, said, "Mate Select is a groundbreaking service that will enable breeders to match the compatibility of two dogs based on the contribution that they will make to the long-term health and genetic diversity of the breed." He added, "The service, which will be available for all Kennel Club-registered dogs, will also enable puppy buyers to easily find the health test results of parent dogs, so that they can predict the likely health of their puppies." |
