After extensive negotiations between the government and the Maoists, Krishna was meant to be released on Tuesday night along with junior engineer, Pabitra Majhi, who had been kidnapped with him from Malkangiri on February 16. However, the Maoists now say they will hold onto him till they get custody of five of their leaders who are currently in jail.

Lalit Bhanot served as the Secretary General of the Organising Committee, and was seen as a trusted lieutenant of Mr Kalmadi, who was the Chairman of the Committee till he was sacked four weeks ago. She had slapped the child, Garima, who is a nursery student, in full public view. Garima was returning from school in an auto rickshaw when the incident took place.
