| Navy Captain investigated for graphic videos Posted: Navy officials said on Monday that it was unclear whether the commander of an aircraft carrier who had produced and appeared in a series of coarse and sexually explicit onboard videos several years ago would deploy with his ship, the Enterprise, when it leaves to support combat missions in Afghanistan this month. |

| For Arkansas blackbirds, the New Year never came Posted: Times Square had the ball drop, and Brasstown, NC, had its descending possum. But no place had a New Year's Eve as unusual, or freakishly disturbing, as Beebe, Ark. Around 11 that night, thousands of red-winged blackbirds began falling out of the sky over this small city about 35 miles northeast of Little Rock. They landed on roofs, roads, front lawns and backyards, turning the ground nearly black and terrifying anyone who happened to be outside. "One of them almost hit my best friend in the head," said Christy Stephens, who was standing outside among the smoking crowd at a party. "We went inside after that." |

A judge ordered that the boy remain in Richland County Juvenile Detention as authorities investigate the shooting. |
| US, Germany developing secret spy satellites: WikiLeaks Posted: The project, named HiROS, envisions the construction of an undetermined number of high-resolution observation satellites capable of spotting any object on the planet down to a size of just 50 centimetres, according to classified cables from US embassy in Berlin leaked to WikiLeaks and obtained by Norwegian daily Aftenposten. |
