Putin vows revenge for bomb attack

Posted:

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin vowed "retribution is inevitable" for the suicide bombing that killed 35 people at Russia's busiest airport, while President Dmitry Medvedev demanded robust checks at all transport hubs.

"This was an abominable crime in both its senselessness and its cruelty," Putin told a meeting of ministers.

"I do not doubt that this crime will be solved and that retribution is inevitable. The task of the government is to extend support to the families of the dead and injured."

No claims of responsibility have been made for the attack, which also left 180 people injured. However, suspicion is likely to fall, however, on Islamist separatist insurgents from Chechnya.

Kate Middleton inspires nail colour, 'No More Waity, Katie'

Kate Middleton's got her something blue!

Come spring, the soon-to-be-princess bride could be polishing her royal nails with No More Waity, Katie, a glittery new shade of gray-blue nail polish cheekily named in her honour.

Butter London, a line of nontoxic nail polishes based in Seattle has announced its special-edition royal-wedding themed shade.

The limited-edition polish is grayish-blue and glitter-filled, while remaining organic and animal friendly

The polish will be available for online preorders in March on zuneta.com.

Inspired by the pre-engagement nickname Prince Williams' long-devoted girlfriend received from the British press during her eight-year courtship with her college sweetheart, the polish name is a witty nod that plays on the nail-care industry's habit of giving its lacquer's tongue-in-cheek labels.

The company pledges that its polishes, which retail for about $22 (Rs 1,000), contain no toxic formaldehyde, toulene or dibutyl pthalate.

UK's youngest grandad at 29

Posted:

A 29-year-old man is all set to become Britain's youngest grandfather, as his 14-year-old daughter has become pregnant.

The man, whose identity is being kept anonymous to protect his young daughter, said he was fuming that his teenage daughter was 11 weeks pregnant.

"It's like history repeating itself. I quite like the idea of being the youngest grandad in Britain, but at the same time I'm fuming that she is pregnant," he said.

The 29-year-old still cannot digest that he will become a granddad

"I know myself how tough it is being a teenage parent and now she has to go through the same thing. However, we're all going to stand by her and we will welcome the little one into the family.

She is very young, but she was determined to keep the child. We were not going to force her into doing anything else. We don't want her to hate us," he said.

He added, speaking from his home in South Wales, "I don't feel like a grandad. I've not got grey hair and my hearing is top notch."

The man admitted he became a father back in 1996 when he was just 14. His own mother, who is now 47, is excited about the prospect of being a great-grandmother.

"She was 18 when she had me. She was shocked when I told her the news, but she is happy now," he said.

"Her own mum is alive, and so too is her grandmother, who will become a great-great-great grandmother. There can't be too many families with six generations alive at the same time."

In 2006, Tressa Middleton, became Britain's youngest mother after becoming pregnant at the age of 11.

Youngest Grandma
The record for the youngest grandmother is held by Mum-Zi from Nigeria who turned granny at the age of 17 years.

Obama, Palin visit Riverdale High

US President and former Alaska Governor are not going back to school, but will work hand-in-hand in the latest Archie comic book

If only the rest of the country was more like Riverdale. At least the fictional version of the Bronx suburban neighborhood populated by Archie and his pals where US President Obama and Sarah Palin can find common ground.

In the unlikely storyline of Archie number 617, in stores today in the US, the rivals bridge their partisan divide and descend on Riverdale High School to straighten out the mess left behind when Archie and Reggie each claim one of the politician's support in a student body election.

The cover of the new Archie comic shows Sarah Palin and Barack Obama at the fictional Pop Tate's.

"It really gets back to the idea of 'can't we all get along,' " says Archie Comics co-CEO Jon Goldwater.

"Both (Palin and Obama) want what's best for America, so we came up as an idea of how we put the President and the woman who I consider the de-facto head of the Republican Party in a story set in Riverdale, which is an inclusive place where everybody gets along."

Cynics, though, wonder if the company has ulterior motives for planting two of the most famous figures in the world on the cover of a comic book.

"It's going to be interpreted as both (a sales stunt and a political statement)," says Robert Conte, owner of Manhattan Comics in midtown.

"You're going to have the natural curiosity-seekers wondering why Obama and Palin are in the same comic, but it's also a way for young readers to get to know a little more about politics."

Conte says comic book publishers elect to put Obama and Palin on covers all the time especially since as public figures they're owed no royalties.

"It's very very tricky," says Goldwater of the idea of introducing political figures into a comic book for kids. "But the fundamental belief I have is that both people want what's best for this country, so that was the genesis of this storyline."
