40 hours later, man climbs down bridge

Posted:

Past 11 am on yesterday when Jecy Mellona, the man who climbed the tower of Marcelo Fernan Bridge on Wednesday afternoon, decided to come down.

Mellona slowly came down the bridge tower through the suspension bars.

The wait is over: Police officials bring Jecy Mellona off the bridge and cuff him immediately

Mellona carried with him his bolo knife and the sign board of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) hanging on his back like a cape.

He slid through the tower bars.

However, the heat of the friction while sliding down the bars caused wounds on his legs. Police in civilian clothes were quick to take him down and steal the bolo knife from him.

Mellona was handcuffed by policemen and immediately brought to the Lapu-Lapu Police Station.

Senior Superintendent Anthony Obenza, said that it is obvious that Mellona is not in his right mind, but they
will still have to file charges against him.

Brits betting on Royal divorce

Posted:

Two of the favorite pastimes in Britain royal-watching and betting are morphing into one raucous market centered on the royal wedding.

Prince William and Kate Middleton aren't even married yet that will take place April 29 but some Britons are already betting they will end up getting divorced.

Bookies are placing bets on how long will Kate take to reach Westminister Abbey and how long the train of her dress will be

The odds are unlikely, the topic is disrespectful but when two people disagree on a subject, it's time to lay some money down.

"There's a real tradition of betting on what the royals will do next," said Darren Haines, a spokesman for bookmaker Paddy Power. "The UK has a strange fascination with the royals."

One of the most popular wagers for the past several years has been on if, when and where Kate and Wills would marry.

After news of their engagement broke in November, the when as in, what month brought in 30,000 pounds (Rs 22 lakh) worth of bets for Ladbrokes, spokesman Alex Donohue said.

With those questions answered, bookmakers are looking to capitalise on the royal wedding mania by adding novelty bets before more details emerge. The market is small now, but expected to swell as the big day draws near.

Will she walk into Westminster Abbey right on time, be three minutes late, or make guests wait 11 minutes for a glimpse? How long will the train of her dress be?

Gamblers are invited to place bets on all the above.

Most bookmakers are running a variation of the divorce question, with almost certain odds that the couple will make it to their 10th anniversary.

London retiree Lisa Barret thinks that's an "awful idea" for a market.

"You don't gamble on something like someone's marriage," the 55-year-old said while out shopping for groceries in London.

Bookmakers beg to differ and are eagerly considering suggestions for additions to the wedding special options as April 29 approaches.

London accountant Rana Theva is not surprised by the betting fervor.

Bets are still open on the location of William's stag party and who his bachelor brother Prince Harry will take to the wedding as his date.

But the royal wedding market gives the country's betting houses a rare chance to draw in female customers.

Diddy makes wedding bid
Rapper P Diddy says he is "just a phone call away" if Prince William wants him to play at the royal wedding.
The star, currently in the UK promoting his album Last Train To Paris, also said he wanted to have lunch with the Queen. Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, said, "I'm cool with adding to Prince William's festivities. Whatever I can do to contribute. I'm just a phone call away."

RuLeaks reveals 'Putin's Palace'

Russia's version of Wikileaks posts pictures of Prime Minister's $1 billion mansion, states house is built for personal use

RuLeaks, a WikiLeaks type site owned and operated by the Russian Pirate Party, was shut down by a denial of service attack yesterday after posting photos of a lavish mansion alleged to be Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's estate on the Black Sea. The site, and the photos, are now back up.

According to Russian whistleblower Sergey Kolesnikov, the still under-construction digs cost more than $1 billion (Rs 456 crore), include an amphitheater and three helipads and is being "predominantly paid for with money donated by Russian businessmen."

Putin's spokesman denied the report, saying that the building has nothing to do with Putin.

The place certainly looks fit for a Romanov, with frescoed ceilings, outdoor maze bushes, marble floors, and four-post beds. Bizarrely, a man who appears to be a construction worker with his face blacked out poses in a number of the shots.

RuLeaks, which was founded on January 14, operates on servers outside the country. The Pirate Party says it is currently looking into the source of the attack.

"The corruption is pervasive, and it is disgraceful and crippling for our great country," Kolesnikov recently wrote to President Medvedev, calling him to pay attention to political corruption which, is worth $250-300 billion.

He called on Medvedev to "show to our entire nation that everyone is equal before the law, even prime ministers."

He suggested that the "palace"may be used to entertain guests during the Winter Olympic Games which will take place in the Russian city of Sochi, on the Black Sea Coast, in 2014.

Movie on Wiki?
A biopic about WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is being planned.
The film rights to Australian reporter Andrew Fowler's upcoming biography of Assange, The Most Dangerous Man in the World, have been secured by producers Barry Josephson and Michelle Krumm.
The pair have described the planned film as "a suspenseful drama thriller."
