Honeymoon package at 'world's smallest hotel' Posted: The owners say this is the world's smallest hotel. The Eh'haeusl in the medieval town of Amberg in Bavaria is only two and a-half meters -- that's just over eight feet wide. Built in the 1700s, it's just been renovated, and has now re-opened to accept guests once again, even if it's only big enough to offer accommodation to one couple at a time. |
Rogue Afghan cop's victims return home in caskets Posted: Several of President Barack Obama's top national security advisers stood on a silent, windy tarmac Wednesday night to watch as the bodies of six U.S. soldiers killed by a rogue Afghan policeman returned to U.S. soil. The six were killed in Afghanistan on Monday when the border policeman turned his gun on his American trainers as the group headed to shooting practice. The gunman was killed in the shootout in Nangarhar province near the Pakistan border. |

Polish police said eight men died Tuesday night after a bitter cold front roared in. |

On economic issues, Brown pressed Vice President Biden to push the Germans to move forward with $250 billion in special drawing rights (SDRs) for the IMF, to use IMF gold sales to support poorest countries and to take the initiative to restart sectoral negotiations related to Doha. |
WikiLeaks: Reviewing our Afghanistan-Pakistan strategy Posted: In response to queries posed by the National Security Council, Embassy Islamabad believes that it is not/not possible to counter al-Qaeda in Pakistan absent a comprehensive strategy that 1) addresses the interlinked Taliban threat in Afghanistan and Pakistan, 2) brings about stable, civilian government in Afghanistan, and 3) reexamines the broader role of India in the region. |
WikiLeaks: Cables on Pakistani terror and more Posted: Among a quarter million secret US documents released by the whistle-blower website WikiLeaks, 2,220 cables originate from the US embassy in Islamabad. While there are some surprises in these Islamabad cables, other bits confirm India's long standing fears about Pakistan - especially it's inability to act against terror groups. |
Students protest in Rome, London; oppose reform bill Posted: Thousands of university students and young people across the United Kingdom took to the streets on Tuesday to demonstrate against proposed hikes to British tuition fees. Most demonstrations were peaceful but a group of demonstrators at Trafalgar Square in central London repeatedly clashed with riot police. Protesters pushed against lines of riot police and some threw objects at officers, who responded with batons. No serious injuries were immediately reported. |

Local businessman of Indian origin B R Shetty, who is managing director and CEO of the New Medical Centre Group of Companies in Abu Dhabi, has also bought the entire 100th floor in the tower.
