Indian-origin neurosurgeon left prostitute dead in his bed for 2 days

Posted:

An Indian-origin neurosurgeon left a young prostitute dead in his bed for almost two days while he continued a drug and sex binge in a Sydney hotel room last year.

Suresh Surendranath Nair and another prostitute sat watching while Suellen Domingues Zaupa lay convulsing on his bed, gripped by cocaine toxicity and bleeding from the mouth, a court heard, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

Every now and then the Australian-trained surgeon, 42, would snort another line of cocaine, appearing "relaxed" while Carmen Hernandez Cardona slapped Zaupa in panic, trying to wake her up.

At one point Nair snatched a mobile phone from Cardona's hand as she tried to call an ambulance, explaining he was worried about how he would account for the presence of a startling amount of cocaine in his Elizabeth Bay home.

It was only when Zaupa stopped shaking and appeared to lose consciousness that the trained caregiver in Nair was roused.

He performed chest compressions while Cardona tried giving her mouth-to-mouth.

It was all too late. Zaupa died in his bed and was not found until November 21, while Nair tracked down three more escorts and continued partying in a hotel in Circular Quay.

It was not until after his arrest over Zaupa's death that the NSW Medical Board suspended the University of Sydney graduate's registration.

Santa given security pat-down at Maningrida airport

It looks like even Santa can't escape the law. Waiting to greet him at Maningrida airport on Tuesday were two police officers, according to The Northern Territory News.

The police searched every bag and passenger getting off the plane, including Santa, to make sure he was not carrying any contraband alcohol under his red suit.

Constable First Class Fiona Codrington said alcohol was banned without a permit in Maningrida, about 310 miles east of the Northern Territory capital Darwin.

"People try to conceal spirits and beer in their luggage, wrapped in clothing amongst foodstuff," News.com.au quoted Codrington as saying.

After a quick pat-down and check under his white beard, Santa was given the all clear to carry on his merry way.

Indian-origin husband jailed for life for plotting to kill wife in SA

In yet another case of a migrant woman's murder in South Africa, her India-origin husband has been jailed for life after admitting to have killed his wife in a staged car-jacking that appears to bear some similarities to the allegations against Brit-Indian honeymooner Shrien Dewani.

According to the Daily Mail, Rajive Sewnarain has admitted to have paid two hitmen 2,880 pounds to ambush his car in Durban and shoot his wife, Shanaaz.

The 42-year-old transport company boss was pushed out of the hired Hyundai Getz moments before the gunmen shot the mother of his two children twice in the chest and once in the neck, the court in Durban heard.

Sewnarain had earlier told police that an unknown man had attacked the car as he drove home in Durban on December 10 with his wife sitting beside him, adding that he pleaded for their lives but the hijackers pushed him out of the car and shot his wife.

He said that the couple were having a troubled married life and that earlier this month an underworld figure identified as 'Boxer' had approached him to offer to ''take his wife out of his life''.

"He told me that I should take my wife to buy pizza and then drive to my workplace and give him a missed call. I would then drive down the road and, at an arranged spot, someone would jump into the car and this person would carry out the hit," the paper quoted Sewnarain, as saying.

The case bears similarities to what police allege might have happened to Anni Dewani who was killed on honeymoon in Cape Town last month.

Her millionaire husband told police that he was forced out of the car unharmed by two gunmen before they killed his wife.

Brit boss gets freezing staff hypnotised into thinking they're warm

A boss in Britain, who refuses to buy heaters to keep his freezing workers warm, has instead had them hypnotised into thinking that they are warm.

Martin Connellan bought coats for the lads in his cobblers workshop where temperatures have plunged to -13 degree C, but with doors left constantly open to clear solvent fumes, the workers were still left shivering in the snow.

But after a five-minute session with hypnotist James Kerwin, the men were seen stripping down to shorts and T-shirts, and saying they were too hot.

"I definitely feel much hotter than I was. All my life I've had cold hands and that's even gone now. It's crazy how you can go from one extreme to the other like that," the Sun quoted worker Adam Hood, 27, as saying.

Connellan, a self-confessed Scrooge, who runs the workshop in Bromsgrove, Worcs, said hypnotising them was the last resort.

"It's all about mind over matter. It's a case of reprogramming people like you would a computer," hypnotist Kerwin of Studley, Warwicks, said.

"You can retrain people into thinking differently about how they feel. It seems to have done the trick," he explained.
