| MLA's boat service owes maritime board Rs 28 crore Posted: PNP Catamaran Services, owned by Alibaug-based legislator Jayant Patil of the Peasants and Workers Party (PWP), has not paid dues worth Rs28.09 crore to the state maritime board, information obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed. The firm offers air-conditioned services between Mumbai, Mandwa and Alibaug. Information procured by former Alibaug MLA Madhukar Thakur states, PNP owes Rs25.24 crore to the state maritime board in loading and unloading charges. The firm did not pay any dues to the board between October 1999 and August 2005. It owes Rs2.84 crore in service tax, which it has not paid from August 20, 2005, to September 30, 2010. Sumangal Nevatia, Ketan Rathod, Abhilash Jadhav and Deepanshu Bansal were allegedly caught with chits in their pockets during the first semester examination of the master's degree course in December 2009. In their petition, they have stated that the notes were found in their pocket out of oversight as students often carry them to study while travelling. They also stated that nothing was copied from the notes. |

Justice VR Kingaonkar of the Aurangabad bench on December 2 set aside the conviction and sentence of Ravindra Gadge of Borban village, Ahmednagar. Additional sessions judge, Shrirampur, had convicted Gadge and the girl's mother Sulbha under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and sentenced them to one-year rigorous imprisonment. While Gadge appealed, Sulbha did not. |

The seizures worth Rs 2 crore included 1,66,114 CDs and DVDs, 3,700 inlay cards and 35 DVD writers. The Alliance Against Copyright Theft (AACT) had launched a toll-free number (1800-103-1919) for people to complain about piracy incidents.
